BettyJean speaks with Susan Bonner about her life as told in her book entitled "Opening a Registered Nurses Eyes"

This true story chronicles the changes I witnessed in nursing and the medical field, in our nation and in myself during the years 1998 to 2002. This includes the start of the nursing shortage. It is written to expose what goes on behind the scenes concerning healthcare in this country, the common problems our nation faces and what it is like to live across North America as a Travel Nurse. It is not politically correct or for the faint of heart. Chapters are arranged according to the States where I have lived and worked with my husband and dog.

Although the book centers on my experiences as a Travel Nurse it’s written with the intent to enlighten and is suitable for any adult reader, including nurses and anyone that deals with the medical field. It does contain some graphic medical descriptions.

I have been a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing for sixteen years. I am retired from Travel Nursing and am living in Montana. This book was very difficult for me to write because of its personal nature. It was very hard to reveal the deterioration I saw of the medical field and our nation. This journey significantly changed my life forever. I started out a naïve Long Island girl, and ended up a brutally honest, sometimes cynical, woman. I hope to inspire my fellow Americans to stand up for what is right and persevere no matter what difficulties they encounter on the great journey that is called “life”.

IMAGINE if we joined forces IMAGINE what we can accomplish collectively? I IMAGINE it every day. All for one and one for all. Not one of us should fall not one, not one! The Majority United! The time is now! Yes – this is our vision – it has never been done on this scale 52% but we can do it!!.
