"Joy of Missing Out" by definition is when you’re enjoying what you’re doing in the “here and now” and not on social media or watching what everybody else is doing. It's the complete opposite of "Fear of Missing Out" or FOMO.

Jessica suggests a few ideas for alone time daily which includes:

1) Meditating for 10 minutes or not bringing your phone along for a 15-minute walk. Meditation is a particularly great way to practice solitude, and it can be accomplished in as little as 60 seconds a day. Research finds the practice relieves stress and benefits the brain.

2) Monitor your digital diet just as you would your food diet. Download the app called Moment. It automatically tracks how much you use your iPhone each day. If you’re using your phone too much, you can set daily limits on yourself and be notified when you go over. You can even force yourself off your device when you’re over your limit.

3) Learn to be more intentional with your time. Next time you find yourself about to binge-watch a reality tv show remind yourself what you could be doing instead, like catching up with a friend on the phone, or simply getting more sleep.

Takeaway: Taking breaks from constant connectivity to enjoy some alone time is just as important for our overall health as eating right, moving more, sleeping, and nurturing your tribe.
