Awe of Life Part One

I am sad to report that Kathleen and I are potentially guilty of abortion ourselves in that we used the Pill for a period of time before we started our family. We long ago repented of and regret this objectively grave sin, which has been washed away in the Precious Blood of our merciful Jesus.

You see whatever you may think about the morality of so-called contraception, the scientific fact, that many are totally unaware of, is that The Pill as well as  some other forms of so called birth control, does have an abortifacient property wherein break-through fertilization may occur while, while at the same time, the Pill has made the lining of the womb (the endometrium) hostile toward the implantation of the fertilized egg—which is indeed a very small, unique, gifted, unrepeatable human being—thus causing the death of the baby.[i]

Some may argue that there is not a human life present; but if there is not a human life, what in the world is it? The Church teaches the truth that life begins at conception, which is further defined as fertilization. At that moment, when the sperm fertilizes the egg, God infuses an immortal soul into the child. When else would life begin other than at the beginning?

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you came to birth I consecrated you” (Jeremiah 1:5, JB).
