The next edition of Flyy, Female & Fabulous Radio features Shequeta L. Smith, President and CEO of Rayven Choi Films. After graduating from college, she decided to give screenwriting a shot, and a year later, Shequeta was a finalist in the "Sundance Filmmaker’s Lab” with her first screenplay. She recently wrote, directed and produced the short film, The J.H. Gunn Project, which was featured in numerous film festivals around the world.
Shequeta formed Rayven Choi Films in 2008; it was developed to produce fun, smart and high concept projects using low to modest budgets. The company seeks to take a new approach to film production by using a hybrid business model designed to bridge the gap between the independent and studio film worlds. One of her current projects is The Takeover, a short film featuring an Afrian-American comic book illustrator and her Caucasian, fashion designer best friend who envy each other’s dating lives until a hippy barista serves them an exotic espresso that causes them to swap bodies for 24 hours. I’ll be chatting with Shequeta about her business, romance and interracial dating.
