1 Sam 5.3 says...When the people of Ashdod rose early the next day, there was Dagon, fallen on his face on the ground before the ark of the LORD! They took Dagon and put him back in his place. The people in the land worshiped him.

Out of the descendants of the Amorites came the Mari people. The Mari people took on another form of wickedness but they were prophetic people. They were known in the land to say what they believed they heard based on the deities that they served. They got information from, a fallen place they would speak it forth in the land, and everyone knew that when they spoke they had heard from a god. Because what they said came to pass even though it was perverted. We see the samethings today with palm readers and mediums.
