National Fallen Firefighters Foundation’s Fire Hero Radio host Dave Statter brings us live coverage of the start at the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at the Westin Peachtree hotel in downtown Atlanta. Scheduled as part of Fire International Rescue, this stair climb is just one of many held across the nation giving firefighters the opportunity to acknowledge the sacrifice of their fellow firefighters as they ascended the 110-story towers nearly a decade ago.

Participants will climb 110 flights of stairs (the same number as the World Trade Center Towers). Each climber will dress in turnout gear, station gear or workout gear and will carry the photograph of a firefighter who was killed that day.

This is not a timed event or a race, it’s a way for firefightes to honor and remember their comrades who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11th.
