Summer is over. And with it, the movie season dies, not with a bang but with a whimper. But wait a minute, we don't let anything go with a whimper. We're FILM GEEK CENTRAL! Reduced: 83% of original size [ 480 x 300 ] - Click to view full imageFirst up on this episode, we'll take a look at THE LAST EXORCISM. This is the newest horror film to take the pseudo-documentary approach used by such films as THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, PARANORMAL ACTIVITY and if you're a real horror fan, CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST decades earlier. In this one, a preacher with only a tenuous grasp on his own faith still sees himself as performing a good deed by putting people's fears to rest. He is asked to perform an exorcism and decides to invite a small camera crew along so he can show them what a sham exorcisms are. Things go as expected, until things start getting really strange. Eli Roth put his name as a producer on this film so it could get a theatrical release, just as he was helped by David Lynch and Quentin Tarantino back when he was still struggling to make a name for himself. Looks to be a good supernatural horror film.Next up, Film Geek Central becomes one of the few shows brave/stupid enough to tackle VAMPIRES SUCK. This is a spoof of the TWILIGHT films and it comes to us from the same people who gave us DATE MOVIE, EPIC MOVIE, DISASTER MOVIE and MEET THE SPARTANS. All of those films are recognized as being horrible. So, why do these guys still get work? Because people still pay to see it.If this makes you laugh, you'll like this movie. Also, we hate you.But let's be honest. It's not really fair to bash something unless we can watch it and tell you if maybe we've been too hard on these guys. So, we're giving VAMPIRES SUCKa look. So, tune into the show and maybe you'll hear a heartfelt apology along with a message of hope. Or perhaps you'll just hear us banging our heads into our keyboards for ten minutes. Either way, probably worth your time. We'll also take a look at NANNY MCPHEE RETURNS. Honestly, we didn't realize this was a big enough hit to warrant a sequel. But then again, both the original and the sequel did well overseas. Which just goes to show, sometimes we spend too much time judging a film based upon it's domestic release.Emma Thompson returns as the hideous faux-Mary Poppins, who spins a web of magic around a rural family along their spoiled city cousins. Through her teaching, they learn how to care for one another and stand up on their own two feet. Nanny McPhee is truly magic, she is. Though personally, we find her continuing resemblance to Spencer Pratt troubling.Coming soon to a sex tape near you.Next up is a film that probably should be getting a bigger release than it is. The film isCENTURION and takes World War II-like story about a garrison of soldiers trapped behind enemy lines with an enemy sworn to wipe them from the face of the Earth. What makes this different from a World War II movie? The fact that the garrison is made up of soldiers from the Roman Empire and their pursuers are Picts who have sworn a deadly blood oath. Apparently, the soldiers decided to pester the Picts until the barbarian hordes decided they needed to shed to Roman blood."I can see now that this was a terrible idea."This film comes to us from Neil Marshall, who directed DOG SOLDIERS, THE DESCENT and DOOMSDAY. We loved all of those films. Okay, Austin didn't like DOG SOLDIERS, but he's not writing this release, so there. We'll cover all of this plus film news and our DVD Picks of the Week! The whole thing happens Sunday, August 29th at 8:00 PM Eastern / 7:00 PM Central at FILM GEEK CENTRAL!If you miss the show, you can always download this or any episode later on from our BlogTalkRadio page.
