Film Geek Central

Attention, film geeks! You know who you are! Film Geek Central is a new spin on the old review show. Scott Davis and Austin Kennedy have been published in various media outlets. Each of them also comes to the forefront with some knowledge about what it takes to make a great film, without the prejudice that weighs most shows down. More than anything, Film Geek Central is a new podcast, by film geeks and for film geeks.

Show Notes

Photobucket

Every week, Scott Davis and Austin Kennedy check out the latest, but not always the greatest films in the multiplexes. Everything from the biggest blockbusters, to the smallest indie films to the latest foreign films. Scott and Austin are film geeks by birth, keeping a critical eye on things, but bringing a lot of humor and energy to the proceedings as well. They don't always agree, but it's always entertaining.

    KNOWING IS HALF THE BATTLE

Fighting for freedom, wherever there's trouble, Film Geek Central is there.

We've got a great show for you this week on Film Geek Central. First up, another icon of our youth gets the big-budget summer movie treatment. Stephen Sommers brings us G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA, starring Dennis Quaid, Sienna Miller (LAYER CAKE, THE EDGE OF LOVE), Channing Tatum (STEP UP, FIGHTING), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (500 DAYS OF SUMMER, BRICK), Christopher Eccelston (DOCTOR WHO, 28 DAYS LATER), Rachel Nichols (STAR TREK, SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS 2) and (uh-oh) Marlon Wayans. Will this be the big G.I. JOE movie we've been dreaming about since 1985 or will it make MEGAFORCE look good by comparison, we'll take an in-depth look.

Next up is the most obvious counter-programming of the summer, and this time it might just work. Meryl Streep and Amy Adams (DOUBT, ENCHANTED) star in JULIE AND JULIA, which switches between two different time periods to paralell the stories of the women. In order to get some excitement in her life, Adams starts a blog where she will spend a year making all the recipes in Julia Child's famous cookbook. We go back to Julia Child's origins to show that she didn't always have her life together either, so maybe when we're most lost is when we find ourselves. This also might be the first major Hollywood film about a blogger, which has to be some sort of event.

Next, after many years of either having his films buried (BELOW) or recut (CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK), David Twohy finally gets some love at the box office by releasing a thriller that is getting some good notices. A PERFECT GETAWAY stars cult movie icon Milla Jovovich (RESIDENT EVIL, THE FIFTH ELEMENT), Timothy Olyphant (DEADWOOD, STOP-LOSS) and Steve Zahn as a group of people whose Hawaiian vacation becomes a nightmare as they are stalked by killers who have it out for tourists.

We will also be taking a moment to discuss the passing of John Hughes and the impact that he had on the cinematic landscape.

All this plus reviews of the latest DVDs like OBSESSED, RACE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN, THE SOLOIST, DELGO and more.

It all goes down Sunday night at 8:00 PM Eastern/7:00 PM Central at Film Geek Central. You can also stream or download previous episodes.

Or you could just decide to get us sent directly to your earbuds weekly by subscribing to the show on iTunes.

And don't forget to follow us on MySpace and Twitter.

Hope to see you there, Film Geeks!!!
