The temperature is running high in Carlsbad and I’m not just talking about the weather which has been a scorcher! No, I’m referring to the November 2nd election that is getting awfully close to us. Are you ready? In the past couple of weeks I’ve interviewed the city Treasurer Candidates and the two leading candidates for the Mayor. On Tuesday (9-28) I’ll devote my time to the candidates for the Carlsbad Unified School District. Four candidates are running for three seats. So far the focus of all of the candidates has been on the budget and funding issues. As you know the economy has been very tough and many of our Carlsbad homes have been victims of foreclosure. Many other Carlsbadians have filed to reduce the value of their homes so they will be paying less property tax. Our schools are funded through the property taxes we pay. So it’s natural that in these hard times the funds are dwindling and these declining funds will adversely impact the quality of education our children will receive. The four candidates include one incumbent, a social worker, a technology consultant and a marketing executive. Two incumbents are not running: Mark Tanner and my good friend Nicole Pappas. If Lisa Rodman wins her won seat we still will have two new faces on the school board. I invite all of you to listen to my show on Tuesday, 28th of September at 3 pm. Please email me your questions and the issues you would want me to discuss with our school board candidates. It's the future of our children so please make sure you know the candidates and their platforms.
