The election is almost two months away. Our longtime mayor, Mayor Bud Lewis, is stepping down after 40 years of public service to Carlsbad. This Tuesday, August 24th, some of Carlsbad voters will get a chance to hear three mayoral candidates speak about the future of our city and their platforms. This is the first candidates’ forum in Carlsbad and it’s no secret that it has created a great deal of excitement and anticipation. The forum is held by the Carlsbad Republican Women Federated whose bylaws dictate they can only invite Republican candidates to their meetings. Three of the four candidates have been invited to participate. The candidates are: Council Member Matt Hall, Council member Keith Blackburn, and landscape company owner Walt Meier. The fourth candidate former marine Glenn Bernard is not a Republican and was not invited to the forum. I will attend the meeting and will report to you on what I saw and heard. I think you will enjoy this report. We also have another guest, Al Wanamaker is the new president of the Carlsbad Hi-Noon Rotary Club and I have invited him to tell us about his club, what Rotary stands for and why Rotarians are so well respected all around the world? Al is probably the best known business owner in the Village. Who has not heard about Al’s Café? His breakfasts are to die for. I’ll ask Al about his business and surviving in this unprecedented recession as well. Make sure and listen to my radio show on Tuesday August 24th at 3 pm Standard Pacific time.
