  • Should the Pelicans Trade for Will Barton?

    in Basketball

The New Orleans Pelicans will have limited flexibility once they resign Jrue Holiday to a near max level deal.  One tool the Pelicans can utilize to improve their roster includes the Designated Player Exception that they earned via the Demarcus Cousins deal.
The Pelicans DPE will allow them to absorb the contract of a player with a $3.6 million dollar earning in the 2017-18 season, and one such player who fits that criteria is Denver Nuggets Shooting Guard, Will Barton.

  • Bursting the Roster Bubble

    in Football

Hawks Playbook Podcast Episode 25 - Bubble Burst
Open: We are at episode 25, almost ½ a year of bringing you a weekly show devoted entirely to your team, the Seattle Seahawks. The next 25 episodes will hopefully take us all the way past a Seahawks appearance in Super Bowl 52 at the new Vikings Stadium in Minneapolis. Each week until then, we will bring you the good and bad from each game, as well as a look forward to the next opponent.
News:  It has been reported that 5 significant players (Lockett, Bennett, Avril, Wilhoite and Joeckel) are away from the team this week receiving a treatment called Regenokine. The treatment is intended to provide relief to injured areas be it joints or muscle tissue. The players will not play this week and will be ready to join the team for the first regular season game versus Green Bay.
Featured Segment: This week’s show is all about looking at the projected 53-man roster and identifying the players that both Bill and Keith have identified as being “On the Bubble”. Those players that are right on the cusp of making the final roster, or being cut in the one and only roster cut down after the final preseason game against Oakland Friday night. This year, the talent depth is deep, and the amount of players that could land outside the final 53 reflects that.
Close: Next week’s show will be crazy amazing as we will have a set 53-man roster, excluding any last-minute cuts and pickups after all the teams cut down to 53.  With 1200 players hitting the open market at once, anything can happen. Please follow Bill and Keith on Twitter. Keith is @MyersNFL and Bill is @NWSeahawk.  You can also follow the show pages on Twitter @HawksPlaybook

    in Baseball

Jays Journal Podcast - Pride & Dignity: An exclusive interview with Tony Fernandez.
    Opening Monologue. (0:00-10:58)
His early childhood years, the moment baseball became a passion in life, which players inspired Tony most growing up in the Dominican Republic, how the vaunted "Fernandez sidearm toss" evolved, and his relationship with uber scout Epy Guerrero as both a father figure, mentor, and Latin baseball talent trailblazer. (10:59-27:22)
Early days of losing expansion baseball, his relationship with his band of brothers, the moment he knew the Jays were legitimate playoff contenders, candid thoughts on the 1985 and 1987 teams, nostalgic rivalries with the Tigers and Yankees, on the delicate ebb and flow of self-confidence, the perpetual inability to win when it mattered most, and the time Buck Martinez made his jaw drop. (27:23-40:11)
Tony's touching thoughts and strong feelings on Cito Gaston and how his leadership influenced everyone around him, on the pursuit of a standard of excellence, how the arrival of the SkyDome legitimized the team and made him forget Exhibition Stadium, his feelings on the bittersweet winter of 1991 and how he personally handled the biggest trade in franchise history. (40:11-50:21)
On returning to the Jays on three (3) different occasions and how close his heart is to all things Toronto, why the team's loss of family values hurt their post-season future, the Japanese playing experience in the twilight of his career, the lack of respect he felt from baseball in a new decade, being recognized on the level of excellence and if the Blue Jays are doing enough with their alumni, and his honest impressions of the modern day roster and the current state of his overall health. (50:22-68:00)

    in Hockey

HabsFan vs. LeafsFan - Season 2, Episode 27.
HvL is Kamal Rehman (HabsFan) and Ari Shapiro (LeafsFan)
Marc Bergevin & Geoff Molson at the Loo. (0:00)
As our continued fascination with executive lavatories continues, HvL is proud to bring you the latest invasion of privacy involving a ruthlessly candid conversation between the general manager and owner of the Montreal Canadiens. You'll be enthralled, transfixed, and quite possibly horrified by their savage exchange and unpredictable release of random bodily functions.
    HvL SportsDesk (5:20)
Rehman & Shapiro prepare for the post-season in style with their hot takes on everything from the value of tanking, to the wisdom of putting faith in anyone over the age of 30, why Tyler Bozak and Paul Stastny are so over-rated it'll make your head spin, and why Patrick Marleau is a huge fan of video games involving islands of players battling it out over random weaponry and helmets.
    HabsFan Rant (10:49)
Kamal saves one of his best rants for the end of the regular season by illustrating the value of free agent acquisitions in the larger context of what this season has meant to fans of the Habs. By the time he's finished his manic eloquence, you'll find yourself reaching for a new general manager.
    LeafsFan Rant (14:59)
Ari riffs on the power of Toronto's youth movement and how everything seems like roses and unicorns until you realize that a first round exit against the Boston Bruins will be considered a colossal failure in the context of poetic redemption and failure to contain the greatest weasel known in the galaxy.
