One of the most important things an online marketer must learn when they start is the discipline of self employment. Its not an easy transition to make, because it goes against most of the things we have been taught all of our lives.
We have been raised in families where the head of the household usually had a job, we went to school and learned what we needed to know to become valuable employees, and then we were put out in the working world to find a job. There arent many people who just have the natural inclination to employ themselves.
This factor becomes compounded when you take into account the rabid hype all over the net about how we can all get rich in a week or two if we just put up a website and make three phone calls. Well.....that would be better then going to work, wouldnt it?
It never seems to occur to most people that they themselves are usually not ready to open their wallet when they happen upon one of those web sites....most of us approach those work-from home offers with a considerable amount of skepticism....so why do we not believe that other people will feel that way as well?
But I suppose at the moment when we decide to buy in, we are psychologically prepared to believe that hype, and at that moment, its reasonable to believe that other peolple might feel the same way. So it follows that "I will buy in, because I know Im not the only one who feels this way, and Im sure I can sell it."
Because most people who buy into the online business world do so not because they have a deep seated desire to own their own business, but rather because they have a financial need which they believe they can satisfy easily with an online business.
Surprise! Its just not that way. It MIGHT have been that way once, when online business was new, but even if it was that way once, it is not that way now. The online business world has become quite crowded, and while there is still lots of room for growth, the customer base has become jaded and skeptical.
More so with the knowledge that so many Internet Marketers have engaged in a "race to the bottom", competing with each other for who can make the most extravagant claims of earnings in the shortest time while doing the least amount of work. And yes, every once in a while these promises work.....someone buys in.
Can you hear the booming baseline of Queens rock classic "Another One Bites The Dust"? Clearly, this is a recepie for desaster Here is a person who has joined not because they want to own a business, but because they were promised easy money, and they have a special need for money. And then they find out that the promise of easy money just isnt true....instant discouragement!
Let me get to the point. Its possible to make money online. Its possible, in fact, to make a great income online. It is NOT, however going to happen without learning, and execution. And for those of us who have been promised an automated system, where the money just happens automatically, its just not true, and the sooner you can grasp that, the better off you will be.
If your serious about online marketing, then learn the job, get good at the job, and be consistant at the job. And rest assured, it IS a job. You will have to work hard, endure disappointment, and risk failure. The odds are low here....you must have heard by now that 95 % of all online marketers fail. That means that only one in 20 make it.
If you want that one in 20 to be you, you must be prepared to work and work hard. But if you are one of those people, I have good news....you have already survived the first BIG cut....those who are NOT willing to treat this as a real job, buckle down and work. So SMILE, you are already on the path of success through simple commitment and consistent action. Till next time, Happy Marketing.

If your aim is to sell something to an audience on the Internet, it’s important that you keep a couple things in mind. The primary concept you must keep in mind is that nobody wants to be sold anything, but everyone loves to buy things. The other thing that you must NEVER FORGET is that, in a way that is unique to the internet and NO OTHER ADVERTISING VENUE, your audience is there completely on a voluntary basis....they can click away in a heartbeat without guilt, remorse, or penalty.
Its true of television as well....except that the audience might miss the rest of their show. Its true of radio as well, except that the audience would tune away from their favorite host. Magazines are close.....flipping a page is penalty free....unless your article is on the page with the ad. Billboards enjoy a captive audience....a driver might ignore the billboard, but he or she cannot avoid passing it. Newspapers are the same as magazines. Only on the internet is content served singularly and on demand, so that if content is unacceptable, it’s GONE in an instant.
For all these reasons, its important to CONNECT with an audience before you can SHOW THEM that you have something they WANT TO BUY. One of the best ways to do this is humor, because when someone makes you laugh, you have a natural tendency to like them....its human nature. Another impactful tool in advertising on the Internet is video.
So...and here’s where I go out on a limb with some of my own thinking...if you could combine humor, and video...and then introduce your product or service at the point of the resulting connection, you might just have a much higher chance of being heard, and having your message accepted. Let’s face it, the odds are still low, but at least you have a better shot at it this way.
This was the theory behind the F & C Marketing Enterprises production of "So You Think Internet Marketing is Funny?"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9hqyPC6i5w
In this video, we tried to first brand our company with a consistent introduction then connect with them by telling jokes. The jokes are much funnier then they would be by only reading them, because we included a carefully constructed laugh track behind the text. If the jokes give the audience even the slightest urge to laugh, the contagious nature of laughter from the laugh track will push that urge over the edge.
At the end, once the connection has been made, we make a brief pitch for our company, give the contact information and then end with our company brand once more.
We hope you enjoy the video, and we look forward to providing more fun videos for the web.
