    in Parents

Kori welcomes the co-founder of Multicultural Children's Book Day to the program. Join us in a discussion about diversity in children's book publishing, what's gone wrong, what's going right, and where it's headed.
Despite census data that shows 37% of the US population consists of people of color, only 10% of children’s books published have diversity content. Using the Multicultural Children’s Book Day, Mia and Valarie are on a mission to change all of that. Their mission is to not only raise awareness for the kid’s books that celebrate diversity, but to get more of these types of books into classrooms and libraries. Another goal of this exciting event is to create a compilation of books and favorite reads that will provide not only a new reading list for the winter, but also a way to expose brilliant books to families, teachers, and libraries.

  • Why Women Are Rejecting “Good” Men

    in Family

Withdrawal is a common male behavior in relationships, but it’s beginning to seem that entire groups of men are withdrawing from women in general. Men should not strive to stay out of trouble. We should strive to be the best men we can be. Only then are we worthy of women’s love. We shouldn’t complain if women are unenthusiastic about our lack of direction. We certainly shouldn’t cry victim if our spiritual listlessness drives them to the arms of men who pilot their own ships—or at least appear to do so.
It wasn’t supposed to be this way. We men learned how to change diapers and cook risotto. We learned to watch for barely perceptible nods of approval before opening doors for women. We even learned to manscape, for goodness sake.
Women were supposed to be happy with the new variety of men. Yet they are divorcing us just like they divorced our insensitive forefathers.  American woman initiate 69 percent of divorces. Who can blame women for being bored with men these days? Far too many of us have lost our masculine fortitude. That fortitude has nothing to do with being dominant or avoiding vacuum cleaners. It’s a product of solid values and strong backbones. I think most men are retreating from the sense that nothing they do is good enough, and women will forever be unhappy with them. They’re propelled even further by a small, but vocal, contingent of women who provide a steady stream of anger and disapproval.

  • Heart of A Hebrew Woman

    in Moms and Family

    US 2:4,5
The Heart of a Hebrew Woman is about bringing women together and expanding on the Truth. The Truth begins with understanding our roles as women and gaining a stronger relationship with the Most High. This is a great opportunity for us to create a unique dialogue that will expand our thinking about who we are and where we are going. My goal is not to preach, but to teach about loving yourself, your husband and your children while serving the Most High. In addition, I believe this show will encourage and motivate women throughout the week.
Let us now give praises to the Most High, by thanking him for renewing our minds and instilling a strong foundation of learning The Heart of a Hebrew Woman.
    Shalom,
    Sister Tama

  • Want to Feel Like a Man? Then Act Like One

    in Family

Conventional wisdom tells us that before we do something, we first need to feel like doing it or feel like the kind of person who would do that sort of thing. And in order to feel like doing something, the thinking goes, you need to get in the right mindset, “find yourself,” or discover your “deep inner truth.”
So young men following conventional wisdom drift through life waiting until they feel like a man before they take their place in the circle of men. They believe that at some magical moment in the future, they’ll feel like a grown man, and once that happens they’ll finally have the motivation to start doing manly things. Or they read books, meditate about masculinity, and attend weekend men’s retreats, hoping that they’ll start to feel like a man through pondering manhood. But they don’t seem to make much progress. Sure, they have their moments of inspiration, but when the retreat is over or the book is finished, they’re back to feeling insecure about their status as men.
But the problem with conventional wisdom on how a person “becomes” is that it doesn’t work. At least not very well. Nine times out of ten you won’t magically start feeling like a man by simply thinking about becoming a man. So how can you start feeling like the man you’ve always wanted to be? By following the advice given by both ancient philosophers and modern psychologists: to feel like a man, you have to act like a man.

  • Should You tell your Kids the Explicit TRUTH'S ?

    in Parents

    a Story by: Meg Rosoff
About a decade ago, a friend I knew and cared about deeply told me that she was having an affair with her child's best friend's father. "My God," I said, swallowing hard. "That's complicated."
It was complicated all right. The families lived practically next door and were in and out of each other's houses all the time. But neither marriage was good. And my friend swore that this was the real thing.
The problem was her daughter. She worshipped her mum, watched her like a hawk. And though she was only six, she was one of those strange, precocious children who gets inside adult heads and roams around, looking for stuff. Like the fact that her mother was madly in love with someone other than her dad.
"You can't keep lying to her," I said.
"No, no," she assured me. "It's not a problem. She doesn't suspect a thing."
I looked at her. "She knows. She doesn't know what she knows, but she knows."
And she did. If ever a child knew something was wrong with her family, it was Evie. She had developed a heartbreaking look of puzzlement in the company of her mother, searching her face for answers.
I notice those children now, the ones people lie to. Like all children, they are studying the world, struggling to learn the rules of engagement. Except that, for them, life doesn't make sense because their instincts are negated. So they begin to twist in an attempt to accommodate a world full of half-truths.
An American woman visiting friends in London a few days after the school massacre in December 2012 in Newtown, Connecticut, asked the friend's family (two adults, three teenagers) not to refer to Newtown for the duration of their visit and not to turn on the news in case her children might overhear distressing stories.

DRUGS + ALCOHOL = THE NEW READY-MIX AT CEMEX?
    HOLN.VX
Will CEMEX ("ADR" CX:US" CLH" CEMEXCPO:MM) (BVC: CLH) and CEMEX SAB de CV (CEMEX USA) shareholders file a derivative class action lawsuit in 2015? It appears that the shareholders may have a viable claim against CEMEX based on fraud, illegal activities, or gross mismanagement by CEMEX because the Board of Directors has failed to address corporate abuse and criminal acts committed by their employees, agents and affiliates. CEMEX has failed to police its own employees to the detriment of productivity and outcome and therefore, a decline in stock value.
Has the negligent behavior exhibited by CEMEX staff, employees and agents resolved in poor cement quality; that the lack of proper handling and use concerning the production of cement is the reason for defective housing structure, buildings and infrastructure throughout this country and abroad. Has these acts resulted in misappropriation of corporate assets, has there been a wrongful delegation of corporate duties and a failure to address the negligent acts of employees, and is the negligent acts committed by employees deemed a breach of corporate duty of care, duty of loyalty and has resolved in a a waste of corporate assets to cover their wrongdoings. This is particularly true, where these acts are the result of nepotism.
Therefore, it is important to do an extensive background investigation into the company and companies responsible for manufacturing, producing and distributing cement because poor quality cement resolves in billions of dollars in losses to businesses, insurance companies and consumers. For such reasons, CEMEX shareholders may consider litigating against the corporation in 2015.
Jaime Gerardo Elizondo Chapa Board Member President and Karl Watson are called upon to take immediate action.

  • How to Adjust when Things Don't Go to Plan

    in Family

Step aside and take a moment to recollect yourself. This can be literal, if it was a short-term plan (such as where you're going to eat that evening), or metaphorical if it was a long-term plan (such as what path you're following in life). Either way, it can be upsetting when things aren't going as you planned, so call time-out in order to calm down and regain your sense of direction.
Consider why things didn't go according to plan. The best way to formulate a better plan is to figure out why the first one didn't work out in the first place. Compare how things went with how things were expected to go, and ask yourself how that happened and how you can prevent that from happening in the future.
Assemble a new plan with these things in mind. Okay, so things didn't go according to plan. Now it's time to take the information you've gathered and formulate a new plan. Where can you go from here, how can you get to where you're going? Make sure you account for things that went wrong with the former plan, so you can be better prepared to deal with road bumps in the future.

About Family

Like the TV show, modern families come in all shapes and sizes. Many children are a product of divorce, are in touch with both their biological and adopted parents, have two moms or two dads (or both), or are being raised by their grandparents. No matter how atypical the face of today's family, the values stay the same: love and support. Moms and dads will find plenty of support in BlogTalkRadio's parenting shows, especially those about time-management topics that fit both stay-at-home and working parents: organizing kids' activity schedules, decluttering, reducing the workweek, managing stress, making quick meals and more. We've also got shows about friendship – you know, your family of choice rather than family of origin. Just remember: everyone's family seems dysfunctional in its own way. And family may irritate you, but more often than not, you can always count on family to pick you up from the airport.
