James, found your show. Would you please add http://fairtaxnation.ning.com to your list; might even use the URL for your profile. Going to listen to archives if I can figure it out. I don't like the new BTR format - at least not yet. Bill

    Reagan and the Fairtax!

What Ronald Reagan wanted was Common Sense Government. Reagan said, "Now, so there will be no misunderstanding, it's not my intention to do away with government. It is rather to make it work -- work with us, not over us; to stand by our side, not ride on our back. Government can and must provide opportunity, not smother it; foster productivity, not stifle it.”

Even Reagan’s bold plan, he knew his plan was the final answer, but only the beginning at looking at ways to make the tax system work for American’s when he said, "In the meantime, we'll continue to study ways to simplify the tax code and make it more fair for all Americans. This is a goal that every American who's ever struggled with a tax form can understand.“

Reagan was not impressed with the Rush Limbuaghs of the world who believe we cannot change the basic form in which we find the tax system today. Rush has stated the Fairtax has “No Chance in Hell”.

Reagan thought otherwise when he said, "To me our country is a living, breathing presence, unimpressed by what others say is impossible, proud of its own success, generous, yes and naïve, sometimes wrong, never mean and always impatient to provide a better life for its people in a framework of a basic fairness and freedom."

Reagan understood our current system when he said, "At the same time, the federal government has cynically told us that high taxes on business will in some way “solve” the problem and allow the average taxpayer to pay less. Well, business is not a taxpayer it is a tax collector. Business has to pass its tax burden on to the customer as part of the cost of doing business. You and I pay the taxes."

He also want to reduce payroll taxes when he said, "In short, a punitive tax system must be replaced by one that restores incentive for the worker and for industry; a system that rewards initiative and effort and encourages thrift."

The Fairtax fulfills the dream of Reagan by letting every worker keep their entire paycheck—NO income or payroll taxes, by letting retirees keep their full pensions and social security checks, by letting everyone keep capital gains and investment income, and by encouraging savings and investments.

Reagan wanted his followers to continued the commitment of tax reform when he said, "We must make the people a commitment, the kind of commitment that says if you work or save more tomorrow than you did today, then your reward will be higher. More of every added dollar that you earn will be yours to keep” and he said "It is time to put Americans back to work; to make our cities and towns resound with the confident voices of men and women of all races, nationalities and faiths bringing home to their families a decent paycheck they can cash for money.”

The Fairtax does this by eliminating gift and inheritance taxes, It taxes spending of inherited/gifted wealth more fairly, It ends personal and corporate income tax filings, and it eliminates the $280 billion in compliance cost of the income tax industry.

Reagan would want us to pass the Fairtax. Reagan left us a great example when he said, “This country needs a new administration, with a renewed dedication to the dream of America--an administration that will give that dream new life and make America great again!”

We should not despair. Reagan never gave up. In times of danger Reagan left us a legacy when he said , "Our country is in danger, but not to be despaired of….On you depend the fortunes of America. You are to decide the important questions upon which rests the happiness and the liberty of millions yet unborn. Act worthy of yourselves."
