Research scholars have identified five major cultural strengths or core values of healthy and successful marriages and families. They are

(1) Collective Consciousness, which is the primary concern for survival of the group and the valuing of group identity above the individual(ism);

(2) Belief in a supreme being and recognizing the role of that being in one's life;

(3) Flexibility, (Division of Labor) which is the sharing and changing of family roles as needed;

(4) An integrated balanced world view of life and striving for balance; and

(5) Developing family-like relationships with people outside of the biological family
