With our Nation's successful emergence as an Independent Democratic Republic in 1776, there also emerged those who would tear it down for profit. The Corporate entities that Thomas Jefferson warned us about, Banking and Corporate America, at the earliest outset were striving for ways to subvert the Constitution, Jefferson knew that this was something to be feared! "I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wakeup homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs." Thomas Jefferson.
Through the ensuing years countless attacks have been made upon our Democracy with varying degrees of success. But none can compare with the Bush Family acts of treason. With the election of Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1932, an election that had the American people freeing themselves of the failed leadership that had led the Nation and world into the depths of depression, but even though the people had spoken, Prescott Bush and other prominent industrialists made plans to overthrown the government of the United States and to form a Fascist government like that of Germany. They saw how their investments were paying off in Germany and concluded that a Fascist government was the best form of government to handle the problems of the Depression. They initially believed Roosevelt to be weak and frail and proposed having a secretary for Roosevelt who would run the Nation in the background with the President being merely a figurehead (much like Cheney and Bush, in the recent past). When they realized President Roosevelt was much stronger and determined than they had thought they organized the group, American Liberty League, to fund the operation of forming a backup government of 500,000 disgruntled WWI veterans, to be lead by Marine Maj/Gen. Smedley Butler (a famous WWI leader and General) in a coup to topple our elected government. The American Liberty League was made up of the who who's of big business, U S Steel, General Motors, General Foods, Standard Oil, Birdseye, Heinz Foods, Chase National Bank, and Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, businesses that are still around today and that have become household names! This attempt failed because the General, who had been a dedicated military man during his career, finally realized for whom he had been working! And it was not for the American people but rather corporate America during their earliest escapades into foreign lands for cheap resources. The General had had it with them and revealed the plot during Congressional hearings, however FDR didn't press for further investigations because of so many items on his plate at that time, this was Roosevelt biggest failure. By not pursuing and prosecuting these treasonous individuals he allowed the groundwork to be laid for continued and future exploitation of our Democracy.
Granddaddy Bush was not sent to jail, nor were the other industrial elitists and the only lesson they learned from their attempted overthrow of our elected government was that it was extremely profitable to furnish both sides of a conflict with steel and armament, thus the birth of the military-industrial complex, a term coined by the last great Republican President, Dwight D. Eisenhower, who also warned us about the perils they posed during his farewell address to the Nation. In the photo on the left notice President Eisenhower's body language. It is not the pose of a Commander and Chief, who lead this Nation to victory during the Second World War, rather it would appear to be the pose of a man who is either intimidated by the person he is sitting by or that of a man who is somewhat fearful of the man he is sitting next to or quite possible both! And the man he is sitting next to is none other, than Prescott Bush.
