    Fear is Fuel Baby!

On August 7, 2008, my fiance of 13 months (we were together a total of five years) suddenly and unexpectedly broke off our engagement. To my dismay, he really did not share a reason and I noticed that I was pretty scared; I couldn't even tell you why.

Thoughts, emotions and ideas traveled my brain at Mach-3 speed; I did not know what to do. We had shared our lives and dreams together but now it felt like I was starting over and from a place that was very unfamiliar and foreign.

Fear became what I ate for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Fear is the only emotion I was feeling. I kept thinking how we had co-mingled our funds and how I was paying off his debt, his schooling and our bills since he had lost his job earlier in the year and how now I was going to be financially devastated. While I knew logically that there was a huge gift in this sudden turn-of-events, emotionally I was freaking out!

I called upon my friends, board of advisors, and family. They all told me the same thing, "Laurie, you need to revisit your own personal system that you teach and then work it to the hilt!" They were right. So, I checked out step number four (4) in my 4-step system entitled, N.A.R.P. Step #4 discusses how we must proclaim there is fear and practice working with it rather than against it. Thus, I leaned into the fear and asked what it wanted to teach me. I asked what fear's message was and how I could work through it.

The answers I got from fear is that it wanted to protect me, keep me safe and secure. I also discovered that the fear was very future-based, in other words, it wasn't reality. For instance, I was worried about not having any money yet at the present moment, I had money, an abundance of it even! I also reminded myself that fear is the only thing that gets smaller as we run toward it. So, I decided to make a mad dash toward the fear rather than turn my back on it and procrastinate on dancing with it. I chose and you can, too, to make fear a friend rather than an enemy. It was easy to view fear as a friend when I examined what it was trying to do for me albeit even if it didn't feel too good.

My challenge to you is to use your fear as fuel baby! The more you look at your fear as fuel, the more you realize it is the gasoline to your dream vehicle. There is no reason that fear has to be the brakes to stop you from going after what you want even when life dishes you a dirty blow. I ask that you dissect the fear, pull it apart, and then rebuild it into what you want. When you reframe your perspective on fear and view it differently than you have in the past, you will be amazed how much further you will go and how capable you are of ANYTHING!

Today, I sit before you working from home in my new digs in beautiful downtown Burbank. I am feeling more alive than ever and while fear every now and again rears its ugly head, I've learned to calm it down and be with the stillness. I am on my new path to fearless living and I just know you can be, too. Remember to use your fear as fuel baby and ride the wave!

    To your extreme dream,
