Toronto’s soulful jazz funk-driven producer.
Othello Jay’s journey began when his theme song track was selected amongst numerous submissions for DJ Spinderella (of the Salt n Pepa fame) and DJ Mo’ Dave’s radio show called The Backspin in the summer of 2006. Since then, tracks that he produced for Robizzy have also got airplay in France, Germany, and various internet and smaller market radio stations across Canada and the U.S.
His sonic creations have drawn many comparisons to the likes of A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul. He is a sample based self taught musician that possesses an ear for soul and jazz. This quality helps him build a solid foundation on which an artist could easily convey their message from. He doesn’t make music that people want to hear, he makes music that people are missing.
Othello Jay has produced and remixed tracks for local artists such as Robizzy, Ms. Divine, Shad K and The Lesson. He is also in the midst of working with other U.S. based artists such as Shaya and Butta Verses who was signed to DJ Maseo’s (De La Soul), Bear Mountain Entertainment label.
Since his career launch in mid 2006, he has developed a growing MySpace fan base with more than fourteen thousand plays and eight thousand five hundred fans.
