Dick Guttman is a renowned Hollywood press agent who has been a innovative force in publicity for film, television and recording artists, having influenced the careers of well over 200 pre-eminent superstars and legends whose wit and originality fill to the brim the 650 pages of his first memoir, “Starflacker: Inside the Golden Age of Hollywood.”
Guttman was a journalist from age 16, a UCLA film school grad, who at age 20 stumbled into employment in Hollywood’s dominant public relations firm, Rogers & Cowan and discovered a life’s vocation he could do with his eyes closed and even better with his eyes open. By 22 he was working in Paris on “Love In The Afternoon” with Gary Cooper, Audrey Hepburn, Billy Wilder and Maurice Chevalier. Superstars, he found, did not give him vertigo. His own PR firms, Guttman Associates (and, previously, Guttman & Pam) has marketed the release and Academy Award campaigns for dozen of historic film. Oscar/Emmy/Tony/Grammy winners, and one who has won all four.
His corporate clients his 20 year association with Kathy Ireland’s rise to the 31st most powerful brand in the world, Paul Mitchell, Rolls Royce, Harry Winston Jewels, Sun Valley, and other superstar firms. He is the screenwriter for two feature films and four television movies. He has been married to German artist/art dealer/filmmaker Gisela Guttman for 57 years.
