All of us seem to be, at least to some degree, concerned about our health. However, are we truly listening to our bodies? When the body produces symptoms, it’s just ringing its alarms. It's telling us that its resources might be short to meet an environmental challenge. How are we responding to this warning/alert? Are we just shutting down alarms by popping pills or are we seeking ways to support the body's inner healer so that it can go back to balance? Staying healthy is an art. As such, it requires patience, dedication and practice. To regain body wisdom, it's necessary to understand how environmental stress affects the body and what can we do to counteract the effects of stress. There are multiple stressors affecting us in modern life: electromagnetic, chemical, biological, emotional, physical, mental. Sometimes we can do nothing to avoid these challenges to the body. However we can adapt our lifestyle to support the body in its efforts to maintain balance, to maintain health. The body is multidimensional (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual) and our approach to health needs to also be multidimensional. Nutrition, physical activity and stress management are the basic pillars in which our health is supported. An antioxidant-rich nutrition, for example, can offset the effects of free radicals, an important deleterious byproduct of stress. Meditation, relaxation, Reiki, healthy relationships are among the resources we may use to manage stress and stay balanced. As for physical activity, research shows that it balances hormone release, boosts mood and helps to prevent cancer. Adopting a healthy lifestyle doesn't require countless sacrifices. It just requires awareness. How do we raise our level of awareness? How can we adopt a really mindfull lifestyle? These are the topics of this series called Regain Body Wisdom.
