My weight has fluctuated and when the numbers start getting a little too high on the scale and my clothes start fitting a little too tight I sometimes think of dieting. I've tried many diets. I did "slim-fast" shakes, but they did not make me slim fast; I didn't like the way the shakes tasted and that was the end of that diet. And, I was hungry, so I went and got a gigantic burrito.
I tried the "Hollywood Diet" where you're supposed to just drink the "Hollywood Diet" juice and water for 48 hrs. After about half a day I was starving and I went to Olive Garden for dinner. The thing about diets is that I like to cook, I like to eat, and I like to enjoy my food, I don't want to have to be preoccupied with counting calories, and I don't want to worry about feeling guilty if I want to eat a piece of chocolate (or two pieces) I don't like to be hungry and I'm against self-deprivation.
And, I now know that when super skinny people have been criticized for rude behavior, it's because they're HUNGRY! Hungry people are going to be miserable and mean. Now, don't get me wrong, I do try to live a healthy lifestyle, I try not to over-eat (and that's hard when some foods taste soooo good) and I do exercise.
I especially like Carmen Electra's strip aerobics DVD series; some of Denise Austin's DVDs are pretty good. I've tried Billy Blank's Tae Bo. I joined Bally's gym for a while; I joined Curves gym for a while. I preferred Curves to Bally's, because at Curves I go in, do my pre-planned routine and leave. It's women only, so men do not distract me. And, Curves didn't bamboozle me into signing a ridiculous contract with them like Bally's did.
So...do I think diets are wrong for everybody? No. Not at all. Some people feel that diets make them feel in control of something in their life, and it works for them. But...do I think diets are wrong for me? Yes. I'm able to maintain a happy, healthy weight without going crazy over it. Yes, someday I'm a little bigger and some days I'm a little smaller. But, everyday, I'm happy and I'm healthy, and isn't health and happiness more important than the numbers on a scale. For me, it is.
