Herbal Remedies and the FDA

Herbal Remedies have been used by many civilzations for thousands of years with positve documented results, so why is the FDA trying to shut down herbalists? It is almost imposible in some European nations to obtain herbs that have long been proven safe and effective. The same thing has happened in some U.S. states. The FDA has been leaning on at least one herbalist in Maine. Why? In these harsh economic times, when medical care, insurance, and medicines are almost beyond the reach of most of the middle class, why would any government entity want to shut down alternative avenues to health? Could big pharma be pushing the FDA behind the scenes?  I will have an anonymous herbalist as my guest while we explore the possible reasons, and answers to these questions.
