Friday’s Special Guest Jonathan “JL” Locke Indie Artists Mixtape “A Taste of JL” Jonathan ‘JL’ Locke is an American recording artist. He became known in Chicago as a producer making beats for local indie A Taste of JL” Hosted by The Mixtape Bully DJ V-Dub, in the winter of 2009. JL also partnered with his Columbia College class-mate to start a new record label, TerJon Records. JL’s debut single ‘Touch It’ is expected to be released on the label sometime in the spring of 2010.
JL was born in Oak Park, IL, the son of Ruben Locke, Jr, a drummer /artist/songwriter who played for Tyrone Davis and co-wrote ‘In the Mood’ and played drums for The Impressions. JL’s father is a Black American from Chicago, IL as well as his mother, Shirley Locke. JL has a younger sister and older brother. JL spent two years at Palatine H.S. and two years at Wabaunsee Valley H.S. where he graduated from. JL is currently attending Columbia College.
In 2007 JL started traveling to Atlanta to work with other producers and writers which eventually landed him an opportunity to co-produce a remix for NE-YO’s hit record, ‘Closer’. 2008 led to JL submitting songs to major artists which started bringing publishing offers his way. Unfortunately the offers fell through but there was another door that opened. So, sit back relax have a cup of coffee, tea, a glass of wine enjoy some good conversation and music…
