The Days of the Coming (Presence) of the Son of Man

Christ stated that the days of HTML clipboard the coming of the Son of Man would be as it was in the days of Noah. (Luke 17:27).  "They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all."

Observe that this prophecy was spoken to Noah, whom God found righteous in his generation. However, the flood came in the lifetime of Noah. That means the prophecy was fulfilled in the "SAME GENERATION" of the people to whom it was originally spoken.

Thus, "those days" of Noah would simply be the time future to the prophetic utterance, but not removed by centuries from the people who received it. So likewise in the days of the Son of Man.

The second example is that of Lot. "Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they brought, they sold, they planted, they built; but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all." (Luke 17:29)

Again, the angels warned Lot's family in his day to get out of the city to avoid destruction.  The prophecy was spoken in their lifetime. The days for its fulfillment was future, but not removed from Lot's generation. Again, the Lord adds so it would be in the day when the Son of Man was revealed.

Therefore, to reason that "this generation" could mean a generation hundreds or thousands of years future to that one in which Christ lived and spoke is a major fallacy. "This" is a demonstrative pronoun referring to something near. Not only did Christ use "this generation" to speak of the imminent return to those then living, but he also stated:

Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom,  (Matthew 16:28). As well argue that some in that generation are yet alive walking the earth. According to this text, some who stood in Christ's presence would not die until he returned.
