All-Music Monday Is In Full Effect!
Tonight, we're going to take a trip in the throwback machine. While Sharon Jones isn't an old act, you'd never know it the first time hearing her. The Dap-Kings being the house band of Daptone Records, they are spearheads of a revivalist movement that aims to capture the essence of funk/soul music as it was at its height in the mid-1960s to mid-1970s. Part of the way this is achieved is to shun modern digital recording methods in favour of using traditional analogue recording equipment. The type of instruments used by the band may also be considered limited to those that would have been available up until the mid-'70s.
Tonight, we are treating you to their 2002 debut, Dap-Dippin' With Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. This is music you'll even want your mama to hear! All this plus NPR news, & more. Don't miss it!
