“How to Get DJ’s to Play Your Music.” First things first- you need to establish a relationship. Remember even if your song is great there is no guarantee it will be played. You can start off by asking “Can you play my music” but remember it’s not what you say it’s how you say it. Give the DJ a good conversation but don’t act needy – that becomes really annoying and a sure fire way to NOT have your music played.
Buy them a drink – make them feel that this may be worth their while to play your CD or mix tape. Give the DJ a copy or two of your CD or mixtape to take home to listen to. Ok that’s all good for Club DJ’s but what about Radio Station DJ’s? Well 1st always be ready with your Media Kit. This has your Press release, a short Bio, MP3 and an 8.5 x11 glossy pic of yourself. Make sure your music is radio edited; for all who don’t know that means - free from profanity and explicit lyrics. DJ’s are prohibited to the playing of profanity. Also music should be between 3 min 15 seconds - 3 minutes 45 seconds long. So do it right the first time because you don’t get a second chance on making a 1st impression. So be on your A game and come correct.
