This broadcast segment of "EMPOWERING MEN" addresses the thought provoking question "How Do We Empower Men To Be Better Fathers?"

The host of "EMPOWERING MEN" is Minister Thomas RyerExecutive Director / Public Advocacy for the Men's Empowerment Network.  Minister Thomas Ryer is a nationally sought after speaker on topics addressing men's development and their impactful role in society.

Today's dynamic guest is Dr. David Asbery,  a writer and comic who spent his formative years in a low income Chelsea neighborhood on Manhattan’s west side.  He later moved uptown with his family to an area of the Bronx where they purchased their first home. This was a big step for him and his family. Leaving the projects would be the experience he would later draw upon to write his newly released novel, “My Wife, My Kids, My God.”

Dr. David Asbery made his literary debut in 1999, with “Bootleg” a critically acclaimed New York Times best seller. He co-authored the book with the legendary actor/comedian Damon Wayans. Harper Collins published the book. In 2001, he co-authored another comedy book entitled: “What I Shouldn’t Say” with comedian and actor Seymour Swan and in 2006 he completed a self-help book for non-resident fathers entitled, Single Dad….Not Singled Out!

He has performed as a stand up comedian at the New York Comedy Club and was a regular guest host on WYNE-FM’s the “Barry Mason Show.”

Dr. Asbery is currently working on his fifth book, a gritty urban tale about growing up in the projects. The title for this book is:” The Robert Fulton Project”.
