Host C. Michael Malesky, Head Strength Coach at Michigan Elite conditioning for Athletes, David Lawrence and coach Jack Breslin discuss the differences between optimally designed speed training programs that work versus those that yield minimal to no benefit.
Typical speed training programs are built solely upon the mastery of speed and agility drills and less upon a strength development program that translates into raw speed gains. Only after optimal strength and stability has been achieved, do the coaches at MECA develop a customized program of dynamic exercises that improve, explosiveness, stride length and decrease ground contact time of athletes.
