Elevate The Soul

I am looking forward to tuning in to each of your shows next week...dealing with the effects of capitalism in all its forms.

Elevate The Soul

We Elevate The Soul (WETS) is directed towards preparing the village for transformative and sustainable change. We believe that our true work is to focus inwardly and encourage others to consider and work through the care of their self through soulfulness and self-knowledge, awareness of their gifts, the impacts of their wounds and fears, the role of illusion, distraction and ignorance. If change is to really take root and provide for additional justice against all forms of oppression we believe that we can find peace in hearing from other’s experiences and spending our own personal time in solitude and reflection. Our lives resemble a Mobius Strip (reflecting both the inner self and the public self intertwined) and often times the Ego wants to control. WETS is also about a soul journey and the “whole person” exploring topics and mental energy fields that have been created that contribute to our segmented lives and explains why we are where we are on many different levels. WETS also want to be able to insight diversity and opinions that may not be communicated through our normal and/or regular commercial media channels. Topics will include issues related to forms of oppression, politics, the soul and inner journeys, environment, education and more. Join us on the journey of self-exploration as we hold space to consciously listen to our own inner voices and hear from those voices as they navigate the material realm. As Earth, Wind and Fire say in one of their songs; "Talking to yourself is fine...it shows you where the trouble lies." Peace, Blessings and stay tuned.

Show Notes

Building Cultural Capital will increase the likelihood and help to ensure that we better understand and mobilize all assets (financial, human, environmental, social, etc.). If the only asset you value is financial, you are already broke. Understand the culture that has been developed that tears at your soul and forces the majority to suffer oppression.

    "Fatherless By Design"

President Obama spoke of the absence of fathers (AWOL) in the home and limited to minimal engagement that occurs. Bill O’Reilly was adamant in his conversations with Dr. Mark Lamont Hill that the problem was strictly behavioral problems among African American men, while Dr. Mark Lamont Hill attempted to weigh in on problems within the system as it relates to African American men. Noted artist, poet and historian Ty Gray-El brings a sense of order, clarification and offers something that really needs reflection, investigation and dialogue. Ty will emphatically let you know that he does not believe that the high numbers of children fatherless is no mere coincidence. Is it an issue of responsibility? Systemic oppression? Genetic predisposition? Poverty? What is it? Does that mean that women are not honored for the roles they take as head of household? What are the implications? Where do we go from here? Join us as we listen to viewpoints from President Obama, Bill O’Reilly, Dr. Lamont Hill, Ty Gray-El and others. Featured Guest: Ty Gray-EL is the author of "Breath Of My Ancestors: Recollections From The Conscience Of An African In American." He is the founder of "Stress Away...Write Away: Creative Expression Experience" and Chief Communications Officer of Empowerment Center, Inc. Ty is also known as the Ambassador of Poetry. The Power of the Spoken Word is evident each time this Inspirational Story Teller opens his mouth. He captures your imagination by weaving poetry, historical events and present-day facts into a bright celestial cloth that lifts the air, enlivens your spirit and your soul. Ty has appeared on The Michael Baisden Show, The Russ Parr Morning Show, BET News, Mark Thompson's Sirius Radio Show. He co-founded R.E.A.C.H., a non-profit organization supporting youth and ex-offenders. He is formerly the Crime Prevention Coordinator for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington.

    So What! Now What! Solutions????

What is the path to change and transformation? Will it take place from without or from within? We began 20 shows ago beginning with the thought of Reflecting and Connecting With the soul, Stress-Away-Write Away, Going Soulo, Messages Conveyed by Grandmother, Was Man Made for the Earth or Was the Earth Made for Man, Artists-Can You See What I See, Using Poetry to Navigate Mental Energy Fields, Health and Helping Our Men Get Off the Couch and Visit the Doctor, Commentary and Interviews of President Obama's First 100 Days, Volunteering, Using Storytelling to Promote Literacy, Racism and the DC Governmental Agencies, Obesity and Youth Responding Through Community Gardens, Tia's Way and Cervical Cancer, National Service for VISTAs and Why Serve, Building Community Gardens as a Strategy for Building and Sustaining Community, The Significance of All Forms of Capital, and Capitalism and Imperialism Parts 1 and 2. This week we want to take a pause for the cause and return to our selves and an exploration to solutions for the future. The Temptations sand a song entitled "Ball of Confusion" while the Friends of Distinction sang, "You Got Me Going In Circles". As the rhetoric becomes more pervasive, claims of socialism, revolution, protests, staged resistance, racism, religious conflict, continued war, unemployment and the collapse of our economic, social and political systems; we call for resolution and peace. Join us this evening as we discuss what needs to be done. Your voice is critical to this equation. Thursday, August 18, 2009 at 6 p.m. EST. Capitalism Continued: Clarity & Solution Oriented

If you did not have the opportunity to join us for last week’s show on Capitalism www.blogtalkradio.com/elevate-the-soul (aimed to build upon our understanding of how every other aspect of human life is defined in the form of some type of ‘capital’ or even the financial term ‘asset’ and how it is used. This writer suggests that in order to be more effective and help humanity sustain and strengthen ‘community’, we must begin with a better understanding of wealth, money, capitalism and how it impacts everything else to imply and demand that the only ‘real’ capital that is of any significance - is financial capital. Please take some time and help us out by listening to the show, sharing your comments, thoughts, reactions on the blog http://buildculturalcapital.ning.com/profiles/blogs/building-capital and joining us this week as we draw the discussion through further exploration and aim toward solution oriented thinking. Please feel free to share support, request for clarification or disagreement and join us as we discuss how to succeed. Resource Recommendation: You might want to check out “Money Doesn’t Exist” by Sandra Hurst, http://www.hh-bb.com/ebooks.html and “G-Vision” by Twilight Bey on the same site. There is also a unique perspective on cultural capital by Paul Obinna http://www.hh-bb.com/timeline.html. A depression develops when overproduction, decreased demand, or a combination of both factors forces curtailment of production, dismissal of employees, and wage cuts. Unemployment and lowered wages further decrease purchasing power, causing the crisis to spread and become more acute. Recovery is generally slow, the return of business confidence being dependent on the development of new markets, exhaustion of the existing stock of goods, or, in some cases, remedial action by governments. Depressions and recessions today tend to become worldwide in scope because of the international nature of trade and credit.

Capitalism: Reduce, Recycle or Resuse or Is It Repair, Replace or Reject

As thousands of volunteers roll up their sleeves, commit their human capital, their energy and time to eradicate poverty; using commonly expressed terms, is it possible to win the battle and lose the war? Is it possible to create what we are trying to change? Are we sufficiently preparing folk to sustain quality of life improvements? Are we? We began a discussion on Building Community Capital and Sustaining The Quality of Life during our last broadcast show. The response was tremendous with many not understanding capitalism and/or how it works. In order to build upon our listeners' understanding of how every other aspect of human life is defined in the form of some type of capital we must begin with a better understanding of capitalism and how it has impacted all else to imply and demand that the only capital that is of significance is financial capital. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle or is it... REJECT - REPAIR - REPLACE??? If we are not careful, as we help others to set up micro-enterprises, which is a critical component, and not help them see the connections and understand how wealth and poverty work to drive the class disparities, we have made a gross error and have instead simply parroted the approaches without clear foundational understanding or the navigational tools necessary to survive in a tiered class system. Communism, feudalism, mercantilism, capitalism, imperialism, colonialism and other aspects will be discussed on this show and my guess is that it will be followed with another session rounding out the discussion. Our guest, Rick Tingling-Clemmons, E.R.A.S.E. Volunteer (End Racism And Stop Exploitation), ANC Commissioner 7D05, Black Caucus Representative for the National Green Party, Business Representative for Gray Panthers, and a guest on numerous radio and television broadcasts as he addresses some of the issues that they just don't seem or want to teach in our educational institutions.
