Elevate The Soul

We Elevate The Soul (WETS) is directed towards preparing the village for transformative and sustainable change. We believe that our true work is to focus inwardly and encourage others to consider and work through the care of their self through soulfulness and self-knowledge, awareness of their gifts, the impacts of their wounds and fears, the role of illusion, distraction and ignorance. If change is to really take root and provide for additional justice against all forms of oppression we believe that we can find peace in hearing from other’s experiences and spending our own personal time in solitude and reflection. Our lives resemble a Mobius Strip (reflecting both the inner self and the public self intertwined) and often times the Ego wants to control. WETS is also about a soul journey and the “whole person” exploring topics and mental energy fields that have been created that contribute to our segmented lives and explains why we are where we are on many different levels. WETS also want to be able to insight diversity and opinions that may not be communicated through our normal and/or regular commercial media channels. Topics will include issues related to forms of oppression, politics, the soul and inner journeys, environment, education and more. Join us on the journey of self-exploration as we hold space to consciously listen to our own inner voices and hear from those voices as they navigate the material realm. As Earth, Wind and Fire say in one of their songs; "Talking to yourself is fine...it shows you where the trouble lies." Peace, Blessings and stay tuned.

Show Notes

Building Cultural Capital will increase the likelihood and help to ensure that we better understand and mobilize all assets (financial, human, environmental, social, etc.). If the only asset you value is financial, you are already broke. Understand the culture that has been developed that tears at your soul and forces the majority to suffer oppression.

Political capital is primarily based on a public figure’s favorable image among the populace and among the other important actors in or out of the government. A politician gains political capital by virtue of his or her position, and also by pursuing popular policies, achieving success with initiatives, performing favors for other politicians, etc. Political capital must be spent to be useful. QUESTION: Are politicians the only ones with POLITICAL CAPITAL? How do you gain or build your own political capital? Are certain assumptions made about certain people and where their vote AUTOMATICALLY goes? With the current state of the union my fellow Americans, the way things are, and the number of issues on the table, how do we make an impact? Lead, follow or please get out of the way. Our Featured Guest will be Dr. Timothy F. Johnson. Elected June 13, 2009, Timothy F. Johnson is the Vice Chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party, becoming the First African American to hold the position since the party’s inception March 27, 1867. Timothy is the President and CEO of Leadership 101, LLC. A certified Historically Underutilized Business (HUB), they focus their efforts on working with nonprofit organizations and small to mid-size for profit businesses. They specialize in organizational development, total quality leadership and logic model implementation. Uniquely qualified to work with volunteers, his company was the first to offer a Certified Volunteer Manager program in the state of Georgia. Initially attending Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, Timothy was elected President of his freshman dorm. Leaving early to pursue one of his first loves, he completed 21 years of military service with the United States Army, serving as enlisted soldier and commissioned officer (attaining the rank of Major) on Active, Reserve and National Guard duties. NO DOUBT! Straight Up Open Mic and Commentary

We seem so caught up in capitalism that we have lost sight of other forms of capital. It is impossible to account for the structure and functioning of the social world unless one reintroduces capital in all its forms and not solely on the one form recognize, perpetuated, institutionalized and spread through the media by economic theory. Once we have bought in to the historic invention of capitalism and its definition, we reduce the universe of exchange to mercantile exchange, which is objectively and subjectively oriented towards the maximization of profit, self interest and thus defines other forms of exchange as non-economic and therefore disinterested. I don't have all of the answers but we certainly need to talk about the constructs from which we tend to operate and govern our day-to-day lives. We want your opinion. What are we missing? You can't blame it all on the youth, the teachers, the Republicans...what is the answer? Where are we missing the mark? These and other topics will be discussed. Bring your topic to the discussion and lets at least begin there. Our future depends on it! Your thoughts and insights are requested if only for a minute...we appreciate any comments and insights you are willing to share. Building & Sustaing Communities From The Inside Out Means Just That!

Are you interested in building and expanding upon the different forms of capital in your community? Are you interested in strategies that will help you get to better know your neighbors, community, feel safe and connected to a sense of presence and place? Wouldn't it be nice to have healthy, happy and non-alienated people around you working productively in their jobs and who actually own a "real stake in your community? You have got to check out this week's show as we explore the notion of growing food - people - and the community. None of us want our neighbors to struggle or go hungry. Sustainable practices and initiatives will and always have required increasing the capacity at many different levels. Having food alone is not the answer. Having financial capital alone is not the answer. Join us as we explore integrating different forms of capital and increasing the capacity of the community to improve the quality of life for all members of the community. Tonight's Guest: Erik Kraemer, is a VISTA Member completing a term of service at the Community Garden Partnership, a project of Goodwill Industries that strategically focuses on intentionality, sustainability and inclusion. The Community Garden Partnership, based in Wisconsin, provides opportunities for diverse groups to share their experiences and knowledge with other gardeners at a variety of community locations while also promoting such things as self-sufficiency, environmental stewardship, creation of healthy civic space, and donations to food banks with strategies aimed at how to grow gardens, prepare and preserve food while targeting food security. It is about empowering disenfranchised people. Tonight's guest states, "Food Security is what everyone should have. There shouldn't be any question as to whether there is access by all members at all times to enough food for an active, healthy life..." It is far more than simply making bad choices, values clarification, being able to pay bills, etc.

REBROADCAST: VISTAs Rebuilding Community - Compassion & Service

Last week we received news of Michael Jackson's departure and it caught the attention of many. Out of respect to those who interviewed we wanted to rebroadcast this show. Community Service, helping others, reaching out, giving back have been proven as effective strategies to rebuild communities and the capacities of both organizations and the people who work in or receive services through them. We will open the mics after the show airs again this week.
