Are you interested in building and expanding upon the different forms of capital in your community? Are you interested in strategies that will help you get to better know your neighbors, community, feel safe and connected to a sense of presence and place? Wouldn't it be nice to have healthy, happy and non-alienated people around you working productively in their jobs and who actually own a "real stake in your community? You have got to check out this week's show as we explore the notion of growing food - people - and the community. None of us want our neighbors to struggle or go hungry. Sustainable practices and initiatives will and always have required increasing the capacity at many different levels. Having food alone is not the answer. Having financial capital alone is not the answer. Join us as we explore integrating different forms of capital and increasing the capacity of the community to improve the quality of life for all members of the community. Tonight's Guest: Erik Kraemer, is a VISTA Member completing a term of service at the Community Garden Partnership, a project of Goodwill Industries that strategically focuses on intentionality, sustainability and inclusion. The Community Garden Partnership, based in Wisconsin, provides opportunities for diverse groups to share their experiences and knowledge with other gardeners at a variety of community locations while also promoting such things as self-sufficiency, environmental stewardship, creation of healthy civic space, and donations to food banks with strategies aimed at how to grow gardens, prepare and preserve food while targeting food security. It is about empowering disenfranchised people. Tonight's guest states, "Food Security is what everyone should have. There shouldn't be any question as to whether there is access by all members at all times to enough food for an active, healthy life..." It is far more than simply making bad choices, values clarification, being able to pay bills, etc.
