Range of motion (ROM) usually decreases when you’ve had an injury or surgery.

However there are times when you can have decreased ROM and it’s not related to an injury or surgery. Emotional chemicals can store in certain parts of your body and as a result inhibit range of motion. Sometimes there is neither an injury nor an emotional upset of any kind, but there is a stiffness or tightness that is inhibiting ROM.
