EDUCATION IN AMERICA
So all parents and communities can see the good going on
and what's needed in education nationwide
FEATURING WASHINGTON STATE'S HIGHLINE SCHOOL DISTRICT
and their GLEA BABY ACADEMY,
A PRE-SCHOOL PARENT EFFORT FOR KINDERGARTEN READINESS:GLEA is a partnership program between King County Housing Authority and Highline School District. It is funded through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The goal of the program is to educate and connect the families of infants and toddlers to community and district programs that support kindergarten readiness skills and academic success. The program includes 9 weeks of classes for parents and academy babies along with home visits. During each session academy babies go to our preschool classrooms with early learning teachers and staff where they have their first classroom learning experiences. Parents attend a series of group learning sessions with speakers from a variety of outside agencies. The GLEA Program started in the Fall of 2015. Since then we have served 40 Greenbridge families, more than 50 GLEA Academy babies ages 0-4years, 44 or more siblings ages 5 and up. Parents who attended all the sessions earned 3 credits from Highline Community College.
