We at Data-Salvage recover data from failed hard drives. In our experience hard drive failures come under 1. Mechanical failure 2. Electronic failure [logic board or buffer memory] 3. Microcode [also called firmware] failures. 4. Logical failure [where a partition is corrupted/formatted etc]. Most DIY data recovery software are able to recover data from hard drives that have logical failure [type 4].

Top 5 reasons as to why should backup your hard drive

Top 5 reasons as to why you should backup your hard drive

    1.  Because you do not want to put all eggs [aka data] in one basket. Your data is far more precious than the hardware [aka hard drive] that it is stored on.

    2. In order to keep the prices low hard drive manufacturers are using inferior quality buffer memory. Inferior quality buffer memory is one of the reasons why hard drives fail prematurely.

    3. It is much easier /cheaper to go and buy a new hard drive than to try and recover data from a crashed hard drive.

    4. External hard drives prices are falling, most of them provide Free backup software with them. So there is no excuse not to back up your data.

    5. Backing up your data is like having "data insurance". You may never need it,but if you do, it is there for your peace of mind.

PS: Have a backup schedule and stick to it. Test your backups at least every month.
