Susan Scott’s Fierce Conversations: Saying What Needs to Be Said in the Workplace

Successful leaders communicate powerfully and effectively when they speak with their team in the workplace. Poor communicators are characterized by an air of frustration. They avoid speaking directly with their staff. They usually throw up a wall of language by giving speeches in hit-and-run meetings, bark orders, or remain silent and hope for the best. Some simply seem resigned to the inevitable failure. They may avoid eye contact and rarely have one-on-one conversations unless these are about blame or are gossip.

If you are ready to break this negative spiral of communication and interaction in the workplace, be sure to listen to Life By Executive Decision with Circle of Brilliance Coaches, Theresa Smith and Raquel R. Robinson.

Employee engagement, retention, and contribution are key issues in today's workplace. Many baby boomer generation executives near retirement; are challenged to identify, select, and groom successors to their positions. Many cite and overemphasize the differences in values, mindset, and motivation that each generation seems to embody and point fingers. Critical to the success any executive’s career and the organization’s profitability is the leader’s ability to coach and engage their team and maintain partnerships to assure strategic direction and ultimate success.

This week, Circle of Brilliance coaches Raquel R. Robinson and Theresa Smith, talk with Susan Race of Coaching Connection LLC. Susan is the author of Succeeding in the Workplace and Job $ecurity 4 Life - Assuring Employability. The former Human Resources Executive will discuss valuable insight on:

    - How to change communication style to generate different responses from employees and senior staff.

    - How to lead effectively while earning respect and cooperation from colleagues, staff, and employees.

If you are looking for a new approach to building inclusive, diverse and collaborative workplace cultures that fully engage all employees, provide outstanding customer service, and become a more effective leader, then be sure to listen to this show.

Rev Up Your Resiliency - Managing Stress In the Workplace

Does the unexpected throw you?  Do you find yourself becoming more reactive to minor things?  Are you managing your life and all of your responsibilities to the best of your ability?

Life is full of ups and downs and we need to be able to manage situations and move on.  Lior had been assigned a new boss  She had a positive working relationship with her previous boss and was feeling quite worried about the change and the possibility of losing her job because there were rumors about downsizing.

As well she found her new boss to be ill prepared for his new position and constantly looked to her for help.  At the same time he was quite critical of her job performance.  As you can imagine, she became short tempered with her staff, had trouble concentrating at work and felt resentful towards her new boss.

When she arrived home after a stressful day, she would be quite surly with her family.  She just wanted to be by herself while her kids wanted to spend time with her.

She learned to manage things in small steps, reduce her worry and develop and acknowledge her resilience and competence. She began to incorporate strategies for dealing with her stress which contributed to her being more relaxed and playful with her family.
