      The world is on a path that could possibly lead to a future where just a few hundred million people survive in specially-designed cities in the Arctic. Originally it was imagined this might happen 500 years from now. But scientists say it could happen far sooner than that. People need to be shaken out of their everyday indifference to the great emergency of our age: climate change. "The inactions of others can make us underestimate threats to our own safety."

      Author and free-lance journalist Dan Bloom will discuss how these polar cities may be "humankind's only chance for survival if global warming turns into an eventual global catastrophe.

      About Dan Bloom
      An American expatriot, freelance reporter and author of five books, including "My Excellent Adventures Selling Books from a Pushcart in the Night Markets of Taiwan." Was an editor for the Yomiuri Shimbun in Tokyo, The Taipei Times in Taiwan, and the Capital City Weekly in Juneau Alaska.
