Road accidents killed and injured 760 Iranians during the past four holidays, deputy head of state Traffic Police said here on Saturday. A number of 135 people have lost their lives and 625 other were injured by traffic accidents on roads and highways across the country, Parviz Sayah-Alborzi said. A number of 470 car crashes have happened from October 13 to 16 mostly on the roads to the northern provinces of the country, Sayah-Alborzi said, blaming the increase in the volume of traffic for such a climb. According to Sayah-Alborzi, exceeding speed limits, and improper turning, respectively responsible for 25% and 22% of the crashes, were the greatest contributors to the accidents. Cars and minivans were involved in 53% of the crashes, motorcycles in 3%, trucks in 14%, and the passengers were involved in 8% of the road accidents, the official explained, saying that public transports, including bus, train, and taxi were also involved in 3 % of auto crashes. 73% of traffic accidents occurred on day, and 64% of car crashes occurred at a distance of 30 kilometers from the cities, Sayah-Alborzi added.
