The FBI has promised that Peltier will never walk out of prison. Peltier cause is well known and has had the support of numerous celebrities, world religious/political leaders, and Amnesty International has designated Leonard Peltier as a political prisoner of the United States. When the former president, Bill Clinton, was asked about Peltiers application, he said he would give it a "looksee" because there was a lot of interest in his case.  That resulted in federal agents staging a protest and offering then Governor of South Dakota, Bill Janklow.  Janklow, while as AG for SD he stated the way to deal with AIM is to put a bullet in their heads.  Janklow became AG after fleeing a rape investigation on the reservation of a 15 year old female rape victim. It isn't known what actually took place, but Clinton neither approved or denied the petition when he left office as Bush jr. came in.  When the petition was brought to his attention.  He denied it.  The last time Peltier was nominated for the Nobel peace prize, Barack Obama was awarded it.  On his campaign trail to the presidency, he was asked by Native traditional and spiritual leaders about justice for Peltier, and he promised he would look into it. 8 years and not a word. What is it going to take to free an innocent man.  Join us with Mark Maxey, Muscogee, as our special guest.  We hope to be joined by a couple of others and will update as they confirm. 02:01:00EaglemanznoLeonard Peltier,American Indian Movement,FBI,Natve American,OglalaThe prosecutor at an appeals court hearing over suppressed evidence admitted they could not prove who killed the agents, but because Peltier was there he is jus73f70eb9-7f97-4e3c-bc18-b048a06b339d11fullWater Settlement: whose water?https://www.blogtalkradio.com/eaglemanz/2016/08/14/water-settlement-whose-waterCulturehttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/eaglemanz/2016/08/14/water-settlement-whose-water/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/eaglemanz/2016/08/14/water-settlement-whose-waterSun, 14 Aug 2016 20:00:00 GMTWater Settlement: whose water? The recent announcement of a water settlement between the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations and the State of Oklahoma and Oklahoma City claims to resolve a dispute that has led to two lawsuits being filed. The settlement involved Sardis Lake, and the Kiamichi, Muddy Boggy and Clear Boggy watersheds. The information regarding this settlement was released with this website: https://www.waterunityok.com/ . A "Gag Order" prohibiting the atorneys from releasing information had been pending. The Choctaw Nation website list dates for community meetings:  , however, this morning at tribal council, the settlement was on the agenda for a vote! Questions arose about why vote now if there is to be community meetings later where Chahta citizens can have an input on the settlement. Why not delay the vote until afterwards. If there are to be community meetings, then we need to be prepared to ask our questions. Since the council has voted, does it feel like there is a big rush to get it done and over with? I tried talking with Michael Burrage, the attorney, but he would only respond in a way that he was telling me what I was suppose to think. I would expect a straight answer when it comes to compromising the integrity of our sovereignty. So check in with us tomorrow. Even in recent years, the administration  has been clouded of the Choctaw Nation has been clouded with corruption, election fraud/tampering, favoritism, and rewarding themselves enormously. Just before the election year, a former official, Jason Merida, was convicted of corruption and fraud, and sentenced to 12 years. The trial brought out testimony of widespread corruption, fraud and abuse of office. Efforts were underway to reform the constitution and election rules. Concurrently, Batton created a task force to provide election recommendations, which brought objections from citizens at the council meeting because it failed to resolve the problems. Recently, an issue arose challenging Wards residency. Election rules require a candidate must have lived in the district one year prior to the filing for office (May 2015). Documents appeared in the social media of Facebook indicating he was a resident of District 1 one month prior to filing for office. An election hearing was called for August 19th after the opposing candiate, Mike Amos contested the validity of Wards qualification to run for office. They met at 10 AM and and said they would give their decision by written reply. At the beginning of the election, three candidates were challenged on their residency. One survived the board, while the other two didn't. Alicia Nevaquaya would have been an opponent of Wards and Amos, as well as several others for the council seat. Questions have been raised about the boards thoroughness. This evening I spoke with Mr. Ward about this issue and invited him to come on the show and tell us what he knows. He agreed to come on. I hope other guests versed on this subject do so as well.   01:54:00EaglemanznoChoctaw Nation Election,Tribal Council election,Tony Ward,Jonathan Anthony Ward,Mike AmosJust how broken is the election system of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, listen in and find out!Live from DJ Battiests' Watch Party: election for Chief of the Choctaw Nationhttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/eaglemanz/2015/07/12/live-from-dj-battiests-watch-party-election-for-chief-of-the-choctaw-nationCulturehttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/eaglemanz/2015/07/12/live-from-dj-battiests-watch-party-election-for-chief-of-the-choctaw-nation/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/eaglemanz/2015/07/12/live-from-dj-battiests-watch-party-election-for-chief-of-the-choctaw-nationSun, 12 Jul 2015 04:00:00 GMTLive from DJ Battiests' Watch Party: election for Chief of the Choctaw NationThis will be our first live broadcast event from the DJ Battiest Watch Party for Chief of the Choctaw Nation in Durant, OK. Battiest: candidate for Chief of the Choctaw NationWith less than 30 days remaining before votes are cast for the office of Chief and the council seats of District 11 and 2. This election is being closely watched by many Choctaws since the names of other candidates were revealed in a special insert of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma headquarters official paper. Through social media, revelations from the former Senior Executive Director trial for corruption and bribery, disturbing details emerged and Chahta citizens began demanding a reform in their election process, transparency and accountability, along with campaign finance reform and changes to their constitution to assure checks and balances. When Choctaws asked for a public forum with the Chief, he refused saying he would only meet one on one. The Choctaw Nation claims to have over 200,000 citizens, thereby making close door meetings privately unweildly and impractical. Through this discontent and distrust of the election system, two persons stood to run for the office of Chief. The incumbent Chief, Gary Batton quickly moved to disqualify both candidates, Sherman "Bo" Miller and Deborah "D.J." Battiest Tomasi, including another candidate for District-2 council, Alicia Seylor Nevaquaya. Miller and Nevaquaya were disqualified by Choctaw Nation attorney and the election board, both parties are appealing the decision. For many Chahta's, all eyes and ears are on D.J., with hopes that she will bring openess and fairness within their Nation. Eaglemanz: Chahta Nation invites everyone to tune in Friday evening 7:30 PM (Central) and hear from D.J. If you are in the Broken Bow, OK area, come and meet her at the District - 2 Candidates Forum at McGee Chapel. Potluck starts at 4PM. and forum begins at 5 PM. In the remaining month, we would welcome all candidates for office within the Choctaw Nation to come on and discuss their views. In news making international headlines, several Native actors were told "If you guys are so sensitive, you should leave,...", in response to their concerns of denigrating and racist portrayals of Native people. They left the production. Hollywood has long been known for stereotyping Native characters, or portraying the white hero who saves the day for the Natives as if they were incapable of overcoming insurmountable adversity. One Navajo actor, Loren Anthony, originally refused to participate in the film, but changed his mind when he was told a cultural consultant was hired to ensure a "tasteful representation" of Natives. They told me it was going to be a comedy, but it would not be racist he said. Other Native actors and actresses expressed their concern, but were ignored and told they should leave. When they left, including the consultant, the story went viral and was reported on CNN International. Critics say they should have expected anything different because it is satire. The definition of satire is: 1. the use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule, or the like, in exposing, denouncing, or deriding vice, folly, etc. 2. a literary composition, in verse or prose, in which human folly and vice are held up to scorn, derision, or ridicule. 3. a literary genre comprising such compositions. Netflix, who signed Sandler defended defended him, "The movie has ridiculous in the title for a reason: because it is ridiculous. It is a broad satire of Western movies and the stereotypes they popularized, featuring a diverse cast that is not only part of -- but in on -- the joke." David Hill, Choctaw, says the producers has called back the consultant and those who left. We'll be speaking with David Hill and others about their experiences with this racial stereotyping. Last month Batton took the reforms to the council, and word is that the people will be disappointed once again. However, let's see what happens Saturday at the councl house in Tushkahoma, and we'll have guests to share with you their own thoughts and opinions. It is an election year for Chief and six council members, and they will be expecting the people to vote for them once again. In the years past, voter turnout has been dismal, and with good reason! The general attitude is one of disempowerment, one feels it is useless to try and change anything even by voting. So my question is when are you going to stand up and exercise your power, your voice and put committed actions to those words. It does appear that Batton will be the next Chief simply because there is not enough time to change the election procedures and rules, unless we begin to become involved the various grassroot groups that have emerged, such as, Choctaws Rising and Chahta Veterans for Chahta Civil Rights: McAlester Reunion and Potluck. By the time the elections are over, there may be a few more, but the true test will be those who have learned from this process and begin planning for the next election two years away when another six council seats are up. Now its our time!UPDATE: The federal bribery & corruption trial of former Choctaw Nation Executive Director, Jason Merida, has been found guilty on all counts but one count. Sentencing will come later. The revelations from the trial has fanned the fire of the numerous similar allegations lasting several years, which had been smoldering since Hollis Roberts conviction in 1997. From the activity in the social media, it is apparent this isn't over. Instead, it is a beginning of activism, educating and organizing the Chahta people into bringing about an overhaul of the governmental entity known as the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. The problem is, what will it look like when we are done? Will we be more unified? Or will we be divided into factions? If we as Chahta people want to make a better Nation for our children, then it is our responsibilities to no longer remain silent. Our steps to unity begin at home and community, where we begin developing a consensus of what we need to do to achieve our objective. And we do it ourselves, the real and lasting power to strengthen our nation is our own investment in what we create. Bob Burlison, Kalyn Free and Stephen Leflore attended the trial and shared their observations through the social media. Chahta people from around the Nation needed it, but those who do not understad the realities we face living here has been polarized against them. This is a very important issue, so please share. Time for the Chahta people to pay close attention as we draw near a critical campaign year. United States Attorney Doug Horn in the final statement of his closing argument, turned away from the jury, looked directly at the spectators, pointed his finger and said, "The citizens of the Choctaw Nation are the victims in this case. The federal prosecutors have attempted to portray him as a callous cold-blooded murderer, however, when confronted with with held evidence, a ballistic report said that Peltiers gun was not the one that killed the agents. Prosecutor, Lynn Crooks, admitted that they did not know who killed the agents! Due to a supreme court ruling, the federal court were unable to grant a new trial. Federal Judge Gerald Heaney, who presided over this appeals court hearing stated he felt a degree of discmfort with their decision and wrote a letter to the president asking that Peltier's sentence be commuted. His case has been supported by foreign heads of state and world religious leaders, and is even considered a political prisoner by Amnesty International who have reviewed trial records and determined he has not received a fair trial. Peltier has also been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his charitable works, SIX times! As we near his birthday, we ask everyone to help publize his case and create widespread awareness. Would be presidential assassins, mass murderers and numerous other killers have been released, while Peltier remains imprisoned despite a mountain of evidence revealing fabrication of evidence, coercing/falsifying testimony and other consitutional violations. Candidates will file next year, and hopefully we can be effectively organized that we can sit the candidates down to listen to what we want and need. And I intend to be one of those candidates. That is of no suprise to anyone who has been listening to my show, following my posts on Facebook or blog. Its been said that I would have no chance of winning, however, the point is to demonstrate that I will try in spite of the odds. The least I expect is that people will begin to look at issues in a different way, people will assert their responsibilities as Chahta people. It isn't about power, that is a Nahullo word for control. The voices will have to begin to shake the flimsy foundation created through the federal government. We need a true Nation whose priority is our culture, spirituality, language and lands. So maybe I may not win, but do many of you believe in prayer? Do you believe amazing things can happen. I do! My guest this Sunday is a man who spent 43 years in the Oklahoma prisons waiting for someone to hear his story, when it was heard, the wheels began moving, ever so slowly. On April 30th, Reno Francis walked out of prison a free man, He recently married the woman who believed in him and helped bring him out of prison. I knew Reno during the years I was imprisoned at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary and he is one of the few people I've never heard anyone have a bad word about him. I spoke with him this evening about his plans and his feelings after being out for a few months, and he says that he want to use his case and his voice to help others. 02:00:00EaglemanznoFalse Imprisonment,Oklahoma prisons,Innocence, justice system, justice deniedThose who have been scarred by the application of criminal justice agree on one thing, the justice system is criminal: it usually depends on if you can afford aPRISONS: spiritual wastebaskets. A need for Native reintegration programs. This Sunday, we will be discussing the need for cultural/spiritual opportunities in this countries prisons, and a need for transitional support upon release of our relatives. Ever since the first sweat lodge appeared behind prison walls in Nebraska in the early 70's, this issue has been well litigated in state and federal courts. Even Amnesty International has examined these cases. In 1982, the warden at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary compared Native culture/spirituality to the Aryan Brotherhood and the Ku Klux Klan in denying permission to form a cultural group as mandated by court orders. By the 90's, sweat lodge was allowed at many prisons, and the right to wear long hair had been fought and won, but the real battle remains. What is there for Native prisoners upon their release? In the past ten years the Muscogee Nation has began their Reintegration program and others have began to develop their own. This week I met with the Choctaw Nation and was asked to begin to gather information and data to create a program for reintegration. For myself, this was a milestone in my life as I had asked the Choctaw Nation to do this 30 years ago. We all have families, loved ones and friends in prison. We hope the best for them upon their release, but it is a long road back with a type of PTSD from existing in months - years within a violent and dangerous environment. Employment becomes difficult without marketable skills and coping without life skills makes it stressful that sometimes one just gives up and resorts to old habits that reduces a sense of self-worth. We'll discuss these and many other issues in the two hours we have this weekend. Plan to listen in and share with your friends!   02:03:00EaglemanznoNative culture,Native American, reintegration, prisoners,RehabilitationThis Sunday, we will be discussing the need for cultural/spiritual opportunities in this countries prisons, and a need for transitional support upon release ofBlood Quantum myths: doing the masters biddinghttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/eaglemanz/2014/06/08/blood-quantum-myths-doing-the-masters-biddingCulturehttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/eaglemanz/2014/06/08/blood-quantum-myths-doing-the-masters-bidding/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/eaglemanz/2014/06/08/blood-quantum-myths-doing-the-masters-biddingSun, 08 Jun 2014 20:00:00 GMTBlood Quantum myths: doing the masters biddingFrom time to time, I see this issue raised and before the dust settles, feelings are hurt, people feel misunderstood and nothing is resolved. However, suppose to issue is not about blood quantum, but something more important and larger than this, which doesn't leave any room to point fingers at another since it calls into question, what are we as individuals doing about this. It seems the puppet masters behind the curtains of the federal government has played this hand well which only serve to create divisions. Especially at a time when we need to come together. This came up in a meeting today, and could be a critical hurdle in discussions around the country as to who is an Indian or Native. If this is what stops us from making progress, then it is time we exmine this issue and see if it how we should look at it, or is there another way that could be effective in bring about healing. Here's a blog that I wrote a few years ago related to this issue: http://eaglemanz.blogspot.com/2012/04/defining-our-confiscated-identities.html Tomorrow, it is expected to rain and I have difficulties in broadcasting during thunderstorms. In 2014, we have saw acts of racism steming from willful ignorance or deliberate intent to ridicule and dehumanize Native peoples as distinctly unique in their culture, language and spiritual traditions. In recent years, the state actively fought against established treaties and abolished the Oklahoma Indian Affairs Commission after a 43 year history in 2011. The Red Earth Festival was a replacement for the loss of the National Finals Rodeo after it had left for Las Vegas, in the following years the face of greed continued to grow until now it is nothing but a moneymaking event prostituting the culture of Native peoples.
