What do you know about immigration?
How does it affect you?
Why should you care?
We'll be calling for and end to the deportation of Rigo Padilla, a student at UIC facing deportation on December 16th.
Let's talk about the issues. Call-in and tell your story or let us know what you think about the immigration.
We had crazy technical difficulties at the beginning but we got through and Yasmin provided lots of awesome information and insight into the issues. I really gained some insight into the lives of young immigrants and how some of the struggles they face are not caused by their decisions but that of their parents to come to the US and provide a better life for their family. Listen to the show & learn more about Yasmin below.
Yasmin Nair
is an academic, activist, and writer. Which mostly means that she struggles to pay rent while living the glamorous life of a freelance writer. She is a member of Gender JUST.
Her work has appeared in in Windy City Times, where she is a columnist, reporter, photographer, and book reviewer. It has also appeared in Maximum Rocknroll, Clamor, Discourse, GLQ, make/shift, Mediations, and Time Out Chicago. Her writing and organising address neoliberalism, inequality, and the politics of rescue and affect; the immigration crisis; queer politics and theory, and the contours of a ridiculous gay movement that pretends that the right to marry, the right to kill, and hate crimes legislation actually constitute some kind of leftist agenda.
