This Saturday night we welcome Angelina Telesco and Juan Carlos Vega, the organizers of BlackRock Rocks-Mardi Gras Live Concert to Benefit New Orleans! http://blackrockrocks.org/ What is the BlackRock Mardi Gras Celebration? BlackRock Rocks Mardi Gras Celebration is a taste of New Orleans nestled in Bridgeport. A party with a purpose, our fifth annual fundraising event takes place on February 13, 2010. The party starts at 2:00 the afternoon and goes well into the night. Featuring over a dozen bands and New Orleans inspired food, the atmosphere of Carnival is alive at three venues in the heart of Black Rock: Lady Luck, The Acoustic Café and the Black Rock Tavern. What is the BlackRock Rocks Organization? BlackRock Rocks is a Bridgeport based production organization comprised of local musicians, artists and avid supporters of both. Over the past several years BRR has worked together to sponsor our annual Mardi Gras fundraising event. The success of these efforts has raised more than $14,000 for the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, The Higher Ground Fund and Tipitina’s Foundation. It is through the generous support of local venues, bands and sponsors that this is possible. This year’s beneficiary of BlackRock Rocks Mardi Gras will be the Uptown Music Theater of New Orleans. Founded in 2000 by Delfeayo Marsalis, Uptown Music Theatre is a summer arts program specifically aimed at providing junior high and high school youth with musical theatre training. Its “Swinging with the Cool School” educational initiative is geared at young children, many of whom are struggling to express their feelings and cope with the losses and devastation following Hurricane Katrina. Find them online at www.uptownmusictheatre.org.
