Professional Athletes call him the B2B Guru. ‘Back to Basics’ is Dr. Michael Yessis’s secret formula for making professional and amateur athletes the best at what they do. What bionics did for The Six Million Dollar Man, Dr. Yessis can do for you, he can rebuild you, he has the technology to make you better than you are now, better, stronger, faster. Dr. Yessis won’t teach you how to throw, run, swing, catch. He’ll teach you how to do it better, stronger, faster. When you watch the Olympics you’ll see some of his students using his techniques as they go for the gold. For more than three decades Dr. Yessis has taught biomechanics as a Professor at Cal State Fullerton. He was the first to show the relationships between muscular strength and endurance, muscle and joint movements and exercise science. As President of Sports Training Incorporated, Dr. Michael Yessis specializes in training professional and amateur athletes for explosive speed, quickness and strength. With football in full swing on the high school, collegiate and professional levels it is important to examine various aspects of football training and playing. This will include what I see as the major shortcomings of most players which will be related directly to their training. The most important factors that will be examined include speed, quickness (agility) strength and injury prevention. This week I will introduce a new feature. I will discuss some aspect of what occurred in major sports during the week. Thus, the topic for Wednesday will be why many secondaries do so poorly in professional and collegiate football. I'll also discuss some tips that parents and young athletes can use to not only learn the skills of the game more effectively, but how they can show the greatest amount of improvement in their sport. Join us for another informative and exciting show.

The topic for the show will be about what we can learn - and put into practice- from others. It will involve a comparison of the US system of training athletes to the Russian (Chinese) system. Both systems have produced many great athletes that include world champions and world record holders. But yet, they are on opposite ends of a continuum. We will look at the positive aspects of both systems, but especially at what is not being done in the US but that if incorporated, could produce an even greater number of great athletes. We will look at some of the key factors that are involved in learning and mastering sports skills and physical abilities, that are the key to success in athletic performance. Join us for an interesting and informative program that will give you many great suggestions on how you too can improve your performance or the performance of others. The show will air on September 10 at 6 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time (9 p.m. Eastern daylight Time).

This weeks show will focus on the key methods used by the Chinese and Russians to develop Olympic athletes. Included will be topics such as periodization which will include multi-year, annual and semi-annual periodization plans and block training periodization. The information will be of value not only to coaches and athletes, but also to parents who are raising young athletes. Also included in the show will be development of sports form, a new concept perfected by Anatoly Bondarchuk, who can be considered the most successful Olympic coach ever. We will also touch upon elements of strength training, and the many different types of strength training including speed-strength, starting strength, strength endurance, special strength and maximum versus optimal strength development. Join us for an exciting half hour.
