Dr Synonymous starts with introduction from Beavercreek, OH and a disclaimer (we're not curing you tonight). He reads from a blog post by Grant McCracken, "Making Culture, Making Translations" about understanding each other. An important editorial in The Ohio Family Physician, by Tennyson Williams, MD, Founding Department Chair in Family Medicine at Ohio State University College of Medicine. Dr williams writes brilliantly about "Health Care and Right Brain Function", clarifying how right brain leaning family physicians may be well suited for their specialty, while left brain leaning subspecialists may be well suited for their more technical focus. Dr S then introduces and reads from blog posts on Musings of a Dinosaur: "Requiem for a Crazy Lady" and The AFP Community Blog and the Common Sense Family Doctor, both by Kenny Lin, MD. The latter post commented on the osteoporosis screening guidelines and Dr Lins concerns about political influence on timing of the release of the guidelines. A post from Jill of All Trades, MD blog reviewed colonoscopy preparation and expectations. A comment on that post by Warmsocks is helpful about family screenings. Finally, Dr S reviewed his last post about constipation with information about definitions and treatments and an unlucky New Cadet at West Point when Dr S was in "Beast Barracks". Dr S then introduces his new blog, "Set Our Hearts at Liberty" about his small town of origin, Liberty, OH with a focus in the first post on the Liberty Church. Dr S reflects on early memories of the church and learning about God, Jesus, songs and people in that setting. He expresses his good fortune at the small town experience, even predating TV sets in homes. We had no focused patient or medical student blog reviews tonight, but usually will, since without patients, doctors are meaningless and without medical students, medicine has no future.
