Local Ohlone tribal leaders say they will continue their quest for federal recognition despite Monday’s denial of a San Jose-based tribe’s request. Ohlone/Costanoan Muwekma Tribe, a 400-member group that sought federal recognition to qualify for government services. The bureau found the Muwekma’s petition failed to meet three of the seven criteria for federal acknowledgment.
