In the United States, a quarter of all deaths are because of cancer. In 2004 The National Cancer Society estimated 11.1 million Americans with a history of cancer and that number is expected to reach 20 million by 2030.
It is almost always impossible to prove exactly what causes a cancer in any individual, because most cancers have multiple possible causes. With less than 25% of the world’s cancer population genetically predisposed to it, approximately 80% of cancer cases are caused by environmental factors. The Common environmental factors leading to cancer include tobacco use, poor diet and obesity, infection, radiation, lack of physical activity, and environmental pollutants. World Health Organization (WHO) believes that 30% of the world’s cancer cases could be avoided.

Join Dr. Sadigh and his special guest, Mrs. Sadler, a cancer survivor who is also the founder of the Persian American Cancer Institute (PACI). Mrs. Sadler and PACI aim to reduce the impact of cancer today and eliminate the threat of cancer tomorrow. In the Persian culture, cancer is looked upon as a taboo, a shameful death sentence. The physical survival of cancer is only part of the battle; there is also an emotional, torturous, lonely journey that one usually has to endure along with the side-effects of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery. PACI aspires to pave the road to healing and serve as a reminder that you are not alone, and that there is indeed life after cancer. PACI strives to heal not only the debilitating cancer, but also the fragile heart and human spirit that weaken during such a traumatic process.
