Ruth was poor, a foreigner, and a woman, and all this counted against her, but she was helped by an older woman to overcome the difficulties she faced. She had the good sense to listen to the advice given to her by Naomi, and the older woman was rewarded by Ruth's unfaltering loyalty. Her story illustrates the triumph of courage and ingenuity over adverse circumstances. She has special significance for Christians. In the gospel of Matthew, four women were included in the genealogy of Jesus (Matthew 1:2-17), and Ruth was one of the four. Let us discuss the lives of these women who triumph above their circumstances, who were able to walk together and hear from each other. Are we sometimes too full of ourselves that we do not hear the wisdom of another? Has our egos prevented us from being blessed? Do the pains of life keep us from moving forward? Has God sent someone into your life to bless you, but instead you have turned it into a meeting of the minds, rather than a loving friendship? Pastor Wanda Outlaw of Imani Temple, Washington, D.C. will be our guest speaker and will give us a spiritual as well as natural insight into the lives of Naomi and Ruth. I invite you to come and share your opinions with us as well.
