During her entire career, Senator Frederica Wilson has stood up for those without a voice. As a school principal she stood up for her students and families; as a member of the Miami-Dade County School Board, Senator Wilson introduced reading labs and an African-American reading curriculum into schools. It was while she was serving on the school board that Senator Wilson saw the need for an intervention program with at-risk youth before it was too late. She founded The 5000 Role Models of Excellence Program, which has become a national model for drop-out prevention programs. Frederica is currently a Florida State Senator and currently running for Congressional District 17 seat. Reverend John F. White II was appointed as pastor of Mt. Hermon A.M.E. in Miami Gardens in November 2008. Since his arrival, Mt. Hermon has experienced a renewed commitment to the community, as he leads the congregation into becoming a church that if no longer existed - there would be a void in the Miami Gardens community. Reverend White is a former corporate executive with IKON Office Solutions and Pitney Bowes, where he was honored as one of the top Sales Representatives in the country. Pastor White is also the former Media Relations Director for the city of Opa Locka and former Adjunct Professor at Edward Waters College.
