Lynne Simpkins has been employed by the City of Lakeland Community Development Department since 1988. As a Senior Planner responsible for neighborhood services and programs, she coordinates the leadership development and training program of Lakeland’s 31 neighborhoods and serves as a community liaison empowering and connecting citizens to an array of resources and agencies. Lynne is a member of Leadership Lakeland Class XXV, a graduate of the Citizens Police Academy; Focus on Leadership Class II and the Chamber of Commerce Entrepreneurial Academy. Her board and committee responsibilities include but not limited to: Girls Inc., Education & Enlightenment Group, Inc., Habitat for Humanity and Central Florida Human Services. In 2004, she was a recipient of the Girls Inc."She Knows" Award and the 6th recipient of the Roger Boatner Eagle Award presented in 2004. She is truly a leading lady who recognizes that leadership is ACTION and not position. She is a graduate of Lakeland High School and Lakeland College of Business Nursing Program and has degree as a Medical Assistant. Recognizing the importance of education, she pursued a B.S. degree in Public Administration from the University of Phoenix Online. She is a faithful member of the New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and serves as a member of the Strategic Planning Team, Community Relations Committee and the Women’s Intermediate Auxiliary. She often states that she doesn’t have enough tongues to thank God for all of his many blessings. Her passion and gift of poetry inspires her to write a motivational book of readings that inspires and uplift people focusing especially on women.
