Is this the life that I am to have?
Date / Time: 12/7/2007 12:48 AM UTC
Hey everyone!!! Some have asked me about this new page in my life that I have been talking about and well on Monday I will find out if and when I will be having surgery...
For those of you who don't know I am having a gastric bypass surgery. Not only do I need to lose weight, but I have many health problems that are associated with me being overweight.
Anyone who knows me, knows that I have been struggling for many years with my weight, you know that I have been on different diets, pills etc.
Yes I still do go to the gym each day and do my best to eat right, but it has come to this point in my life that I just need the extra help.
I have also been struggling with acid reflux almost on a daily bases, some times I have heartburn so bad it feels if my chest is going to cave in. My knees are starting to bother me, both my parents have high blood pressure, and cholesterol, my mother has type 2 diabetes, and when I was pregnant I had gestational diabetes. I have not been sleeping well at night, and one top off all of this, I have been having problem with my cycle as well. So in a nutshell my health right now is at a very big risk
I had a doctor suggest that I have this surgery done 7 years ago, and I did not get a chance to, and basically the doctor told me that I very much need to have this surgery now and doing so would be a very wise thing, not only would it prolong my life, but help make it a healthier one also.
After many months of research and support groups I have decided to do so! For those of you that don't know about the surgery, basically they take your stomach, cut it, make you a tiny stomach (the size of your thumb or shot glass), and stich it to the bottom of your esophagus. Therefore, eating a small amount of food will fill me up. With the surgery, vitamins, and exercise, the weight loss varies however, the estimate that I should lose approx 110-150 pounds.
I am very excited and nervous to have this second chance to having this surgery but the outcome of being healthier and having my problems improved (if not resolved) makes me very happy.
I got the idea of keeping a blog/journal on here from another girl that had it done and it seemed like a great way to keep everyone updated on me in this HUGE change in my life!!! As of today I am just waiting for tomorrow. Tomorrow will be my first steps toward a new and healthier Yvonne!
I will let everyone know and keep this journal updated with current information.
