Don't give up on U!  

Don't Give Up on U! It is your right and responsibility to live your best life...Be all that God has designed you to be...It is impossible to become something you have never desired to be! The dreams/desires you concieve in your heart are GIFTS/TALENTS given to you by God. These gifts/talents hold the key to your blessings in this lifetime. Many of us find it difficult to walk in the blessings of these gifts/talents. There are countless reasons as to why we are living BENEATH and not IN the blessings of our gifts/talents. Diligent research and careful observation has unveiled the number one reason why gifted/talented people remain underdogs in their lives. The reason is lack of support from family, friends, etc...Some of us are spoiled to the core with unlimited encouragement, acceptance and love from friends, family, co-workers, etc....the people with the most support usually excel in their lives!...On the other hand some people are not so plentiful when it comes to the support of friends, family, etc..Don't miss the understanding here..it is not so much the amount of support that is imperative..rather the quality of the support that is important! I have met a few people who had more talent in their pinky finger than most of us have in our entire body but, their lives were medicore and on the verge of destitute because they had no reliable source of support in their lives.... But, is this a reason to give up on U?....NO!...Upon figuring out how GREAT YOU ARE...you must get busy acquiring what it is you are lacking in your life in order to REAP THE BLESSINGS OF YOUR GREATNESS!!... Finding out what is holding you back will be the deal breaker!

    There is something deep inside keeps inspiring you to try!

    Although I continue my routine of norms....attend the university, report to the job, keep the boat of day to day sailing along....I indulge myself with visions of rising above the cycle!
    After a day of traditional routines....I take time out to feed my spirit by putting on a SPECTACULAR CONCERT IN THE MIDDLE OF MY LIVING ROOM!!....I go back stage to my walk in closet and sort through my COUTURE WORDROBE and select the most amazing SHIMMERING SHORT SEQUENCE DRESS and slide my size 7's into a GORGEOUS PAIR OF SILVER MANOLO BLAHNIK SHOES....put on my makeup and style my hair grab the remote control (a.k.a..MICROPHONE) pop in my PATTI LABELLE CD and GET THE PARTY STARTED!!!!!!.....RUNNING HOT! RUNNING COLD!...I WAS RUNNING INTO OVERLOAD IT WAS EXTREME!....SOME HOW THE WIRE UNCROSSED THE TABLE WAS TURNED NEVER KNEW I HAD SUCH A LESSON TO LEARN...I'M FEELIN GOOD FROM MY HEAD TO MY SHOE...NOW WHERE I'M GOIN AND I KNOW WHAT TO DO...I TIGHTENED UP MY POINT OF VIEW...I GOT A NEW ATTITUTE....WHEW! WHEW!...WHEW! WHEW! WHEEEEW!...I GOT A NEW ATTITUDE!

     

    This is the very song I sang for America's Got talent auditions in Feb-2009...What a blast!!

    What great fun pursuing the dream!!!...Intense anticipation waiting to see if this is the moment that changes my life....the following month (March) got the CALL BACK...didn't recognize the number...checked the voicemail a day later and it's AMERICA'S GOT TALENT offering a second audition!!...OMG!!!!!!....Drove to Miami for the second audition...TOTAL MADNESS....PEOPLE MORE PEOPLE THAN THE FIRST AUDITION!
    Magicians, Acrobats, The violin triplets...I call them the BLONDE BANDITS!....A 7ft drag queen impersonator, you name it...I saw it!!...Auditions were long and grueling arrived at 7am did not audition until 4pm....OUCH!....IT WAS WORTH EVERY HUNGER PANG I SUFFER WAITING FOR MY MOMENT...Today is May 27, 2009 and the last day of call back to confirm an offer for the show is between July1-10....Soooo, I am still hanging on to HOPE!...I can't say it enough...going for what it is you want makes you winner....sitting on the stoop doubting, and watching your life go by reaps in sorrow and regret that you did not have the courage to try!!!...There something deep inside keeps inspiring you to try!

    Forgiveness is your best friend!

    Forgiveness is difficult for those who feel that they have been wronged in some way.
    To forgive your violator feels like you have granted them freedom from the responsibility of their crime against you.  When I say crime I mean both crimes punishable by law and by Karma.  The crimes punishable by Karma are  the crimes we commit so easily against each other such as gossip, slander, intimidation, rejection, mean treatment, back stabbing, etc...Forgiveness of such offenses usually don't happen over night.  It takes time to recover from the injury inflicted upon you and the idea of Forgiveness seem to be the last resolution to the problem.  Most people feel that confronting those who have caused them harm will resolve the pain but, many times it only fuels the fury.  What if that person denies what they have done, what if they ignore your efforts to make them aware of what they have done to you by avoiding you, what if they admit doing it and refuses to care????
     Do you take it upon yourself to TAKE IT TO THEM...IN THE WORST WAY!!....or....Do you travel through the duration of your life carrying the weight of unforgiveness in your head and heart?????.....Help yourself by FORGIVING THOSE WHO HAVE TRESPASSED AGAINST YOU A.S.A.P.!!!.....You may never recieve the closure you want from others....As a matter of fact they have forgotten about the hurt that they have caused you and furthermore....could careless how it has affected you all these years!!!....Forgiveness restores your JOY, PEACE, CREATIVITY, LOVE, HEALTH, HAIR(smile), and HOPE!...You are not doing it for your violator but in fact you are doing it for yourself!...You are taking yourself out of the passenger seat of victimization and placing yourself in the drivers seat of VICTORIOUS!!....Forgivenss is your best friend!

    "Uplifting others with your gifts and talents"

    Today was a day fo me to give back to the community through gift of song...
    Congrats to Famu High School Girls Basketball Team for all that you have accomplished this year...Shout out to Elton Gumbel the M.C. for this event and also WCTV's on Sports Man....Thanx for adjusting the music volume for me!!...Touching the lives of young people has always been a heart driven mission.  Each time I am given the opportunity to encourage a young person I quickly take the pleasure in doing so...Today the songs of choice for this occassion was performed by Shonticca (Me)...."Never give up" and "What about the children"  both of these songs were originated by gospel songstress Yolando Adams....This event was a total inspiration to everyone attending:
    Keynote speaker...Mr. Greg Grady of Parks and Recreation Dept., Coaches for the FAMU Girls team...Coaches Ahmid Aliyy, James Brown, Vince Hall, and many more wonderful people of the Tallahassee community....I personally enjoyed every minute of uplifting others.....

    "The courage to keep trying"

    I can only speak from a place of knowing through personal experience. The cover Obama's book, "The audacity to hope" says it all for me.  Foster child, high school drop out, single parent, welfare recipient, penniless, car-less, family scarce, etc...Sitting alone in my tiny one bedroom apartment was my temporary reality...1989 my son was 2 months old and the class of "89" was graduating from high school, my class.  I wanted so much to be there with my class smiling and laughing relishing in the accomplishment of graduating from high school.  I could not take much more of watching so I turned the TV off!...I cried!...I looked at my son!...and smiled!!...What a cute little package of JOY!!...It took me a few weeks to gather my courage to go back to school and finish what I had started...I returned back and was able to take the GED...at first I looked down on it, because others looked down on it...eventually I got over that silliness and proudly persued and achieved my Diploma and went on the technical school and then on to college.  I recieved my tech. cetificate in 1997 and my Associates Degree in "07" and now I will be recieving my Bachelors of Science this Fall....Oh Yeah!! That son of mine he too will be recieving his Associates in Science this Fall....Life can be EXTREMELY CHALLENGING...it takes courage to keep trying......

    Personal testimony....maintaining an attitude of perserverance through the trials!!

    At age 14 I became a foster-child.  4 years of my life was spent traveling from one and ultimately through 13 different foster homes. When I turned 17 I was on my way to being a single-mom.  During these times it felt as though a tornado had swept through my life and turned it upside down!!...Everything I had known was gone!!...The scene of my life very much resembled that of Dorothy and the Wiz!..Traveling through the foster-care system is no walk in the park, especially for a child!..Imagine having to live with complete strangers, their kids, their pets, etc...Imagine waking up in the middle of the night in a state of panic because you forgot that you are not at home in your bed!...I can go on and on but, you can read my books, see the play and hear the songs...COMING SOON!
    The point I am making here is "Attitude of Perserverance is what got me through many heartbreaking trials in my life"...The day I realized that I deserve better than what was happening to me was the day I hugged myself spiritually and decided to put forth my best effort to achieve whatever goal I set for myself...Overcoming the hardships and achieving goals I set for myself allowed me to define my future!!....No longer will I allow myself to be defined by my past, by others preconcieved negative notions and judgement, etc...I set the standard of my own DEFINITION!... I come to discover that you can not be WEAK AND GREAT!!....to become the greatness within  you....you must be able to take the good with the bad!!!....in other words....maintain an attitude of perserverance through the trials!!
