Violence against women continues to be a major problem in America.   According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, each year, intimate partner violence (IPV) results in an estimated 1,200 deaths.  And data from the Bureau of Justice shows  that on the average, more than three women are murdered by their husbands or boyfriends every day.  Some of the questions  to be discussed during this program are:  How to avoid getting into an abusive relationship.  How to recognize that you are in an abusive relationship.  How to get out or an abusive relationship.  Where to get help.  How to help someone you know who may be in an abusive relationship, and more.  Our special guest for this very special program is nationally recognized violence against women consultant, Ms. Julie Owens.  Ms. Owens is a survivor of domestic violence who has worked in the field of violence against women and women's empowerment since 1989. She has founded a hospital  domestic violence crisis response team, a transitional shelter, advocacy groups and training programs. She has worked with trauma survivors and addicted survivors, and was a research co-investigator, project director and trauma therapist on studies at the National Center for PTSD.  Join us on Tuesday - March 14th at 10:00 AM CST for this powerful program.
